     thnkyu hi all,

    thanks for accepting me.

I would identify as a muslim woman, however, there are so many underlying questions that I can't keep shoving under the carpet much longer.

I have read through a lot of your post and see there are lots of themes re-accurring so no need to go into detail.

i think the main thing is the feeling of been brainwashed and not able to leave, the guilt, the shame, the fear! fear of hell, fear of `god, fear of everything and the consequences,.

Im sure many of you identify with these issues. I would say I'm a believer in God, but not in what man has made and awful rules opposed upon women.  My ex husband treated me like a second class person and the marrying of other wives is just so painful to recall.

My daughter will be 9 this year and the thought of her getting married at that age makes me feels physically sick and I can no longer accept that we shouldn't question or that it was "normal" in that age. the problem is no-one is allowed to question and I need to question.

anyways, thats a brief about me. Pleased to meet you and hear your experiences and how to get over the fear!

peace and love  far away hug

Welcome, I'm sorry to hear about everything you went through  far away hug

In Islam women's soul purpose for being created was to be a source of pleasure and companionship for men. Unsurprisingly the Quran talks about us as though we are an alien species as a result. That's why Surat AlNisaa talks to men about us instead of talking to us. The author of the Quran clearly could not relate to us as equal human beings and if there was a god I'm sure that he/she would not be so flawed.

Glad to read it's "ex"-husband. He sounds like a prize. What part of the world are you in? Hopefully the UK or somewhere in the west where you actually can question.

    Hi

Yeh I'm in the UK. I think the main thing for me is taking the hijab off, it's just a piece of cloth but I've worn it for 16 years since I converted .

It's kinda hard to break your brain free from Islamic doctrine I feel

I have been facing backlash in my family for merely raising questions on certain issues. Leave alone doubting the religion.

May free thought liberate you. Welcome to the forum.

Take your time. There are members here with husbands/wives/children who were muslims for decades. You're in good company.

Do you mind if I ask why you converted? Were you religious before?

    Hmm.... Not really.

I mean I used to read the bible, I had quite a bad upbringing and was a drug addict when I converted to Islam. I wonder now if I was seeking love and meaning in something. I did push many questions away for years and told just to have faith. I can't lie I do believe in some parts of islaam when it comes to morals and being good to others.

I find the morals people see as good within islam aren't unique to islam. Which isn't to slag off islam in this regard, but I see it as human, not religious.

I agree, I've seen good morals and manner from many.
I've also had really nice spiritual moments in my journey which kinda prevents me from leaving intotality. Although my views and beliefs have ostracised me from many of my "Islamic friends" who say I'm misguided, following desires and blah de blah. I think I'd like to keep my beliefs to myself and what u perceive as God without all the religious dogma, shame and guilt.

Really hard to shake the "burn in hell forever" thing too though

Gehenna was a valley in Ancient Jerusalem where apostates used to sacrifice their children. This is where the concept of Jahannam comes from.

    Anyways, welcome.
