Because the Muslim councillor who said it was offensive to Muslims, was not fake...

But the councillor's claim that he was speaking on behalf of the community was fake.

The unlived life is not worth examining.

It was also reported by the T+A as well though, and lots of other newspapers. Why would a fake story get so much coverage by different newspapers?

    Because it sells

Yea, technically speaking for the article to be true, just 2 muslims would have had to complained about the puppy ad, and they can write sn article saying 'Muslims complained about this puppy ad' and it is completely true, just horribly misrepresenting that whole community and they leave out the actual numbers of complaints that they recieved because it was likely only a tiny number.

We keep hearing about how Jack Straw or the French government have mentioned the veil and our doing so puts us in the same boat as them. How so? I want a ban on the burka, neqab and child veiling.

    Well, according to wikipedia:

    Quote
The majority of both Sunni and Shi'a Muslim jurists consider dogs to be ritually unclean, though jurists from the Sunni Maliki school disagree.

According to a generally unaccepted Sunni tradition attributed to Muhammad, black dogs are evil, or even devils, in animal form.

This is awesome, its a chat log not a picture:

And another picture that made me laugh:

Why were eople in Pakistan forcibly prevented from accessing the "Draw a Mohammed" page on Facebook.

Had they been so offended by the page, they would not have accessed it themselves, without the need for the government to intervene and ban the entire website...

Basically the protesters (and the government of Pakistan) are showing to (primarily) themselves just how tough they are and are "punishing" facebook by boycotting/banning it.

    Problem is that:
    1.Nobody gives a fuck.
2.Facebook and other social networking sites are becoming increasingly important in business networking as well. Those idiots demanding a ban on Facebook (or why not - internet) are effectively shooting themselves in the foot. Unfortunately they are too stupid (or rather too emotionally involved) to notice that.

To be fair, I am actually surprised at the what I see as a mild reaction from the muslim countries.

Remember how many people were murdered over the Salman Rushdie episode. Remember Theo Van Gogh.  Remember the Danish cartoon which just depicted a sword wielding prophet.

Here we have the most popular social networking site in the world housing pics of Muhammed gangraping pigs & getting sucked off by Jesus Christ, and all we see is one country raising a few banners and blocking its access  Huh?

Has it worked.  Are we in the midst of a huge social & behavioural change in the Islamic World?

Hopefully. In the past Islamic taboos were mostly left unchallenged, maybe more and more people will become less and less sensitive to such (non)issues as a result.

The Pakistani ban does not just cover facebook, it is also extended unilaterally to YouTube, to around 400 websites, approximately 850 specific links, and at last count, an additional around 1100 links.

The photo-sharing website Flickr came under the axe as well, as did Wikipedia, Twitter, google.com.pk, Huffington Post, and some CNN and Washington Post blogs and many others were also blocked. These websites, it should be noted, were not hosting ‘blasphemous’ content, but were merely discussing the news of the ban.

Muslims are now responding by setting up an 'Everybody draw the holocaust day' group:

Moar Islamic suicide? Oh, erm, wait, I dont mean suicide bombers, I mean suicide of the religion ... wait, but that kind of implies suicide bombing, but, erm, I meant something else ....

Dammit, never use suicide in the same sentence as Islam unless refering to bombs. whistling2

The vast majority of Pakistanis have never been on the internet anyway. It's only the middle and upper classes that get access to facebook. You know, the ones who spend their days preaching Islam and downloading porn. What they didn't realize was that their half-brained support for Islam led them to lose their best social network. No youtube would suck bigtime too. They must be worried about losing the internet altogether.

I must say, I'm loving Draw Muhammad Day.  I really am.  Muslims are slowly slowly becoming immune to criticism.  The taboos are being broken.  They are realising that Muhammad or Islam are NOT above criticism.

A lot of the cartoons are very funny (and factual!).

This should be an annual event!  Smiley

All is fair under Freedom of speech as long as people's lives aren't threatened, but why does the creator of the page consider Holocaust a myth? Sure, argue with the facts if you wish, but denying the event ever occured is ridiculous.

    Exactly BeyT. Afro
Holocaust denial is completely unsubstantiated and can be defeated easily in a rational debate, but Holocaust deniers don’t like debating with facts.

Nevertheless, as you say, free speech should be allowed (but not freedom to incite violence).
    See this article in 2006:
Free speech, even if it hurts
Protecting the rights of a Holocaust denier ultimately protects us all.

The Holocaust thing is very disturbing. Not because of what it allegedly says about the 'hypocrisy' of 'The West' - but because of what it says about the mentality of some Muslims.
