I was almost punched in Regents Park Mosque by a Muslim when I told him Islam allowed slavery. He refused to believe it and said I was lying.

    Oh gosh Hassan.

Islam makes people so volatile, especially when they are confronted with how they may have been made fools of by it.

@Billy and RIBS - it's the shock. Also the fear that it may be true - they don't... no, they can't face that.

I remember randomly opening the Bible in a chapter of Deuteronomy and finding in it some charming story about how you're to deal with men who refuse to wed their dead brothers' wives.

Bring them before the town elders and stone them. I think that was line.

They really liked their stoning back in those days, didn't they?. A stoning for adultery, a stoning for working on the Sabbath, a stoning  for not marrying your sister-in-law. Why give people a slap on the wrist when a stoning works just as good?

Yeah, they were big into stoning back then.  While we're on the subject of the Bible we should give a shout out to possibly the weirdest part of the whole thing - the Book Written on Acid of Revelation.

    Quote
And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and beheld a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and all Hell followed with him.
    —Revelation 6:7-8

We wouldn't have half the horror films, heavy metal songs or Johnny Cash without that book.

Aaaaaooow and when he opened the fourth seal
i heard the 4th beast have his 4th meal
it included lamp chops, some veal and a virgin on wheels

It probably is, Johnny Cash uses it at the start of one of his songs too.  Here's another one that features a lot...

    Quote
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a MARK in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the MARK, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
    —Revelations 13:16-18

You can see the influence of Revelations all over popular culture, that's why I didn't think we should have a Bible thread without quoting from it.
