"Assuming Paul's predictions were no better than fair coin flips, the probability of 12 or more successful predictions in 14 attempts is ~0.65%, as given by the binomial distribution. The probability for 8 out 8 successful predictions is ~0.39%"

Ye, Spain deserved it. Now they get that world cup star threaded on their football jerseys. Fair play to the octopus.

So what now? I don't want football fever to die out! Maybe I should start supporting a club again. But which one?!?!

Golden Ball: Diego Forlan (well deserved. Single handedly inspired Uruguay into the semi-finals and worked like a true professional)
Golden Boot: Thomas Mueller (5 goals, 3 assists)
    Golden Glove: Iker Casillas
    FIFA Fair Play Award: Spain
Final man of the match: Andres Iniesta
    Best Young Player: Thomas Mueller

Probably because she is trying to be professional and her bf just kissed her. I'm guessing.

To someone who has never watched soccer up until this World Cup, I have to say that soccer - or at least the World Cup - encumbers some of the best actors in sport. It made me cringe seeing a good ten Spanish men tumble to the ground in the first five minutes anytime a Dutchman got too near. If it was not theatrics then one can assume that these people would probably end up dead after a match of Australian football...

Nevertheless, I must admit that I enjoyed it. A lot. Half the reason why I watched it is that I'd of course be going to Munich next year for 9 months so I need to know something about their culture or past-time if I ever wanted to enjoy myself whilst living there, one thing I like about soccer is that it only takes one goal to change the entire game which keeps you on the edge of your seat. Aussie football is a bit different, everyone accumulates points up to perhaps 100 so 1 goal is great but it doesn't turn the tables of the game through a single kick as soccer can.

I should stop calling it soccer too, I heard Europeans hate that word.  Tongue

Oh nice, off to Munich? Good beer there. Smiley

So I was discussing with a mate over all the fouls. He says it's all good, adds action, drama and that the Dutch just had to do it, that the ref had to ensure a good game. I was of the opinion the ref should have just given out more red cards. He then showed me this video which I've not see before, a real cracker from 2006!

Good song too by Juanes, was a very popular song at the time!

Webb should have told the Dutch captain that he knew what the Dutch were trying to do and that the next Dutchman to commit a red-cardable offence really would receive a red card.

Well done Spain.  They didn't score many goals in the tournament, but they kept the ball well and deserved to win.  I want to see more goals in football though.

What did it say on Iniesta's shirt when he scored?

I just heard that after Nigeria was eliminated from the World Cup, the Nigerian goalkeeper personally offered to refund all the expenses of fans who traveled to South Africa. He said he just needs their bank details and PIN numbers to complete the transaction.  grin12
