    Like in this song, you know how some Muslims claim that Islamic laws exist to legislate on all matters, what are the areas that are blatently not covered?

    Taxation is one that came to mind (Muslims may cite Zakat, but 2.5% is hardly sufficient to much beyong government bureaucrats themselves)

    I was thinking copyright laws, but I guess that could be covered under theft.

    Libel?

    And I guess the swathes of areas of social policy.

    I know rape if the typical one sited, but I guess there will be some rational dreamt up by some sheikh somewhere

    Actually the Taxation system Shariah advocates is what the 2nd Caliph Umar ibn Khattab advocated which included land tax (Ushr), Jizya, Khums, Zakat and also tax on war booty looted from conquests in the Levant, North Africa, and Sassanid Persia.

    I have to admit, when it comes to administration in Muslim history, Umar ibn Khattab was even better than Muhammad in keeping finances, armies, and territories governed with an iron fist and smart decision making. No one else could match that level of unified command and authority until Uthman started fucking up in the middle of his reign.

    Breach of the exclusive right to copy is not considered theft in any legal system I know of - because the original material remains with the originator. 
    The concept that an exclusive right to copy should be granted to someone was only developed after the printing press was developed - on the basis that it would encourage the production and dissemination of information.  It follows that the concept of copyright (or intellectual property rights in general) do not exist in sharia.

    Is this what the salafis advocate? Surely it has to be grounded in quran and hadith?
