  • How do you handle depression?
     Reply #360 - January 11, 2017, 07:41 PM

I think I've been depressed for a good 8 years now, though sometimes I think sheer laziness is infused in my mindset. Sometimes I can go days without getting out if bed when I feel especially down and weeks on end without speaking to anyone including family. I went to see my doctor again last week after approaching him 3 years ago over the same subject. I reminded myself why I hadn't seen him again, he doesn't seem helpful to me. But I've now been recommended counselling and I'll sign up to that which is great, I can PAY for someone to listen to my tedious sorrows such is the clusterfuck of my life.

I love seeing my therapist. Paying someone to listen to me for a solid hour is a great investment.

That's one thing I'm worried about now, that it'll be a waste of their time and my money. I imagine people see counsellors or therapists for far more pressing issues than mine.

Yes, but we don't get therapists based on the severity of our issues. We get therapists when we have some problem or problems that we need to discuss. We get therapists when we are ready to make changes. Therapists are there to help us feel better, not judge one client against another.  They are tools we use on our way to a happier us. Like university.

I actually don't use mine for secrets. I have had her for years and she doesn't know all that much about my traumas. I use my therapist to navigate American culture and my own thoughts and feelings.
