I think normally you might be interrogated (albeit politely), but you said you didn't come here to debate religion, so I think most people here will respect that.

What do we talk about besides religion? Sex (it can get kinda raunchy round here, most of us are pervs), global politics, food, our personal lives in general, music, booze, movies/TV. Approximately in that order.

Ahh I presume talks about food, global politics, personal lives, music, movies, etc - go to 'The Lounge' thread right?

I do like studying politics. As a Muslim, my view towards politics tend to be of middle ground though. (Not trying to start a debate, just saying in general, I hope that's fine). As in.. when I see the deaths of innocent people and how oppressed people in unfortunate situations/countries are..I don't blame the West entirely. I look at both sides - the 'Muslim' extremists that cause the damage as well as certain crimes of the West. I prefer to look at both sides and try to understand where people are coming from, when I have the capacity to do so.

For example, the Israel-Palestine issue. I do support Palestinians and want the best for them after everything they had gone through. I feel sorry for how Palestinians were treated in prisons and how they had to go through checkpoints. (I admit I used to be all the way anti-Israel 100% when I was on youtube, haha) But through time, I also realize that Israel's also concerned about their security and although I hate a lot of what Israel had done, I do sympathize with the fact that their children had become victims to the crimes of suicide bombers (I believe that suicide bombing against civilians is forbidden by the way)

I hope this makes sense in a way and I won't get bashed, I was just speaking about my opinions generally.

As for food, I love chicken drumsticks..chocolate ice cream...dim sum. Heh.

Sadly my political views tend to earn me insults at times.

Extremist Muslims would say that I am too concerned with pleasing and appeasing to non Muslims bla bla bla and of course the extremists on the pro Western side would call me a fake moderate Muslim.

Honestly when it comes to politics, I am not concerned about pleasing anyone. I have a mind of my own, and I follow what I think is right.

I believe that if more of us were more balanced and understanding and perhaps even forgiving of one another, we'd be more progressive as a human race. Instead of always being concerned to prove that only 'our side' is correct.

For the most part, though political discussions take place in other sections as well. Same with personal lives and such. Hang out for a while and you'll get the hang of it. The mods/admin aren't super strict about that kind of stuff anyways. It's pretty laid-back.

You'll fit in here just fine then-- most people here have similar views on foreign policy and the Israel/Palestine issue in particular.

So I can start any random topic at  'The Lounge' thread?

Sure. If you think it's really random there's also "The Rant Area", but, yeah, Lounge is best for most topics if you don't think it fits better elsewhere.

    Hi,

I am not sure if I will be that welcome around here because I am a Muslim, and I do not intend on apostating. However, I assure you that I am not here to talk about religion or convert anyone. Getting into religious debates is not really on my agenda at this time anyway.

I read more into this forum today because I was bored (and I got curious, you know, being human lol). I came across old posts of which users used to talk about how their families upset them because their families couldn't accept their apostasy and treated them badly... Somehow it makes me feel sad and sympathetic. Thinking that out there, people have suffered because their families made them feel like black sheeps/useless scum/unloved just because their beliefs changed.

I may not experience the same thing, in relation to faith and all.. (My family is a Muslim family and I have no issues with my faith)..But I do remember my family once making me feel bad enough to give up something really important in my life many years ago and how that decision has effected my life until today. I remember feeling angry and yelling at them these past few months, wishing they'd understand.

It is the saddest thing to feel misunderstood by your own family, who are supposed to love you and cherish you the most.

On behalf of the Muslim world, I apologize for the families who chose not to at least hear out their sons/daughters properly in spite of disagreements/differences.

Thanks - that was really sweet of you  Afro

With an attitude like yours, I dont care if you apostate or not.  I wish your voice & attitude was heard & reflected throughout the muslim world though.
