    Dont be so pessimistic - Try it and see if he responds, you never know you stance might have legs  dance  (I sure hope it does, and if so he might be able to provide you more arsenal in its defence)

    i don't mind saying to him i beleive it - it's just that he's an exceptional and very well read scholar, whereas most people (or a lot of peops at least) on here even know more about Islam than I do - although i do feel i know enough that my thoughts are a valid possibility

    no i'm no too worried about that (being told by someone that i'm wrong) - i just very much doubt he will agree with what i say - it's a very, very radical position from the perspective of even the majority of moderate Muslims - perhaps even an unacceptable one

    Then talk to him.  There's nothing wrong with exposing your ignorance to someone as long as you are willing to listen to their experience.  As my friend used to say
