Athiest PK, you are doing well. Your BMI has come just within the 'normal weight' band- keep going Afro

I hate being bored. Usually, I would go for a run or a swift jog but my legs are protesting.

    True.  Smiley

Right now I weigh a little more than 82 kg and almost 6 ft in height. The maximum I went was 105 kg back in the middle of 2006.  wacko It was insane. Managed to start jogging then and reduced to around 95 kg over the summer during break from Uni years.

I hovered around the 90s until 2007 when I started becoming regular in gym and exercise. Then I came down to around 86 kg at the start of 2009.

Now I am 82-83 and hope to lose a further 5-6 kg over the next few months (esp. during Ramadan! I will actually enjoy balancing my fasting and my exercise and I have qualms doing so for a month.)

Dude your weight is good for your height. What's your waist measurement like?

How about lifting weights? Mix that with the cardio. If there is no gym get kettle-bells. Should give you that ripped body.

    You can use your body here is one lady that does. Fucking nuts if you ask me;

Sounds like your weight loss plan is going smoothly. I hope I can stick to my fitness regime once I relocate. Would like to go back to being somewhere between 45-50 kg

I know, but I am quite a bit out of shape. Seriously need to tone my body and make it more physically 'aesthetic'. I do lift weights, just maybe not regularly enough with proper guidance. I focus mainly on my chest (bench press) and shoulders. But not enough luck truth be told.

That being said, that lady is a former porn star (Susana Spears I think).  Afro

Thanks. Truth be told I am not really a fan of jogging as much. But I love doing some brisk power walking.  Afro

The weather here is atrocious for now. So I try to jog around a mile or so and around a mile and a half of brisk walking nowadays.

If there are only three work outs you ever need to do to increase muscularity it's simply: Squats, Deadlifts and Bench Press... in that order of importance. Everything else is a luxury. Working out the shoulders is generally pointless.

If you had to do just one, you do the squat.

And never ever ever ever talk about "toning". Its garbage. You can't tone your body. You either try to lose fat or gain muscle. Simple physics and biology.

I have read that too. Can't remember the site. Where did you hear this?

OK if I work out different body parts and I add these to each of my work outs? Is that too much?

    How many reps and sets?
  • Re: I hate...

From what I've read, to gain muscle, you should do 12 sets total per muscle group, regardless of the number of exercises--something like 2/3 exercises; 4-6 sets per exercise. Reps should always be 10-15.
  • Re: I hate...

That's insane. I do 6-10 reps for 3 sets and 3 exercises per muscle group. I try different exercises every week and increase weight weekly.

It's pretty common knowledge among bodybuilders and practically any bodybuilding site or book will mention those three as core "bread and butter" exercises that hit up all your mucles and push your body the hardest. Remember that your biggest muscles are in your legs and back. So you any work out plan that does not dedicate attention to those muscles are severely lacking.

Well I split my week up into different body parts (back day, chest day, legs day, arms day etc)

Squats -> Main exercise for legs day
Deadlifts -> Main exercise for back day
Bench press -> Main exercise for chest day

Of course I do other exercises too, but those are the ones I always start off with.

I usually do 4 sets for each exercise and set my weights so my rep range is around 10-12. If I can do 12 I usually up the weights.

Uhh, no. I'm sure that's a wonderfully intense exercise, but you don't need to do specifically that to gain muscle.

    I hate passive aggressive behavior,
ambiguous bullshit that is seemingly benign
but has a sting to it, for no logical reason
    or explanation.

If you got an issue or problem, out with it.
maybe it can be resolved, maybe it can't,
    but this is so childish.
