You might wanna up the activity level a bit, like go for longer runs instead of walking or jogging.

This has proven to be effective, I have been going for long runs with a bit of jogging and walking for the last two days and it has made some remarkable changes, my belly is becoming flatter than before yet the stubborn fat is still around the navel and below it  but its shedding off a bit.

@Ferrero: you are right about the cardio and yeah, I can't get rid of the carbs since I love eating Yams and fries every morning, its hard not to eat anything apart from them. Lol

Add some sprints to your running/jogging. For example, do a 30 second sprint every 5 mins of general running. It'll cause your heart rate to go through the roof, short period of time for recovery and then doing it again = greater metabolic disturbance = quicker results. Mind you, your legs will burn. Wink

I got another question, How do I get to avoid the runner's knee again?

good question.  the answer may be difficult, ie, you may have to learn how to run all over again.  yep, I said it, re-learn how to run. the one thing that has helped me is going from a full support running shoe to a minimalist/barefoot style running shoe.  lots of research has been done to show that those cushy pillows that runners are used to actually makes runners MORE prone to injury and especially in the knee region.  the studies have shown that typical running shoes force a runner into a heel strike when running, when the human foot was actually designed for a fore foot strike.  the heel strike places undo amounts of pressure on the knee and causes them to deteriorate faster than if you ran with natural human stride.  the best way to get a feel as to how you should really be running is to take off your shoes and see how your bare foot NATURALLY strikes the ground and then go out and buy a shoe that aides in maintaining that type of strike when running.  good luck with your running!  I know it is like crack for me and I couldn't live without it.  Smiley  here is a helpful vid to explain my point

Thanks Tabularasa Smiley, you know I was thinking it has to do with the new running shoes that I bought a week ago because for the past one month it hasn't happen to me until I wore those shoes.

Yeah, it has everything to do with footwear.  and how unfortunate because footwear is so ridiculously expensive.  if you screw it up, it's like a $125 mistake.  ugh.

do any of you guys know how many calories a person would need per day, in order to gain 2 pounds per week?
Also, is it true that weight-lifting makes you lose hair in the future?

Depends entirely upon the person, their metabolism, their size, diet, eating patterns, what type of work they do, what they do in their spare time, what their sleeping habits are, and so on.

If you're talking about gaining muscle weight, then you're not going to gain any just by eating. You need to work out. You need to actually hurt your muscles in order for them to repair and restructure for a new workload, and they need proteins available to be able to do that, and suitable rest.

couldn't agree more, I'm starting to see the result ever since I stopped taking coke(few months ago, I used to drink over 200cl),fizzy drinks and sweet snacks in favour of fruits and water. My body is getting back in good shape now.

Yeah, also, I think most people are oblivious how many cals they have in an average drinking session. 4 or 5 Jagerbombs and you're already halfway through your RDA. I usually try and go for diet coke in my Jack D's or Voddy, at least while I'm sober enough to give a shit. Stuff like that.

Depends on your height and bodyweight. What is your body build like? Are you naturally quite skinny?
You need to calculate your BMR and then factor in how many calories you burn from daily exercise/activity, to get an idea of your maintenance calorie intake (the amount required to maintain your current weight). Here's a link to get you started: http://health-connexion.com/body/harris-benedict-formula.asp
1lb of body mass = 3500 calories, so you would need an extra 1000 cals/day on top of your maintenance calories for a 2lb weekly gain.
Unless you're seriously underweight I would advise a daily cal surplus of only around 500 or so. Shooting for 2lbs a week is going to result in a lot of unnecessary fat gain. If you're a beginner, you could probably get away with a bigger surplus for the first few months without compromising your waistline, but you'll have to start tapering it down once the linear strength and mass gains come to a halt.

    And no, it doesn't  Smiley

    Weight: 140 lbs (64 kg)
    Height: 1.69 m

About a month ago, I have started eating clean, cutting back on carbs and empty calories. I eat more protein and fibers. I don't know how much weight I have lost because of that, since I've only just recently bought a scale. Grin
    I do feel better, though.

I just ordered my first pair of running shoes, after visiting a runner's store. They gave me advice on the type of shoe I needed, after a video-analysis of my running. I'm planning to start running after Ramadhaan, any tips are welcome. After running, I want to slowly build up to doing muscle training. I don't want to start everything in one go, afraid my motivation will vanish xD

The future is full of thrilling possibilities.

Intermittent training is supposed to be good for cardio sprints, if you notice in a gym the professional looking people often do ten minutes of high intensity and they're gone on to the weights.  It kind of bores me doing half an hour of regular cardio anyway.

I personally look at diet purely from a scientific perspective. A calorie is a calorie regardless of its source. Losing weight is purely based on calories in vs calories out (Due to the laws of thermodynamics). Now, the reason I count my protein, carbs, and fats is because I want to maintain muscle and lose as much fat as possible and also want to prevent getting hungry all the time. I like to have a lot of Protein and fat because they keep me full for longer (due to slower gastric/stomach emptying into the intestine) and try to add about 20 grams of carbs into each meal to ensure my glycogen levels are high to decrease muscle breakdown (catabolism).
Cardio is just a way to burn excess calories and to increase the rate of fat loss. It is not necessary to lose weight. It is definitely a good idea though because it increases cardiovascular fitness and makes you "as fit as you look". The thing that has worked best for me is high intensity interval training (HIIT) it is short and burns on average approximately 450 calories in 20 minutes if done correctly. My method of doing HIIT is going to a running track near my house and doing 100 meter sprints followed by light jogs around the rest of the track. Every time i get to the starting line I sprint for another 100 meters. HIIT could be done on the treadmill; use an incline of approximately 10/12 and sprint at that incline at around 13 speed for 15 seconds every few minutes. You will definitely feel it   Wink

I've always been an ectomorph with a high metabolism. Losing weight has never been an issue for me. I've always focused on gaining it and in the past I've had to eat like a horse (both carbs and protein) and train hard to not look skinny. Haven't trained for a few years now and have returned to a slim weight but unusually & unlike the past I now gain fat more easily & mainly around the belly. I think my metabolism is slowing now Ive hit middle age. Definitely need to workout again but don't think I have the motivation to do it like I used to.

My metabolism is quite slow so it's incredibly hard for me to lose weight. Meh, when the Apocalypse comes I'll be picking my teeth with your bones, high metabolism people.

I am quick and agile anyway. Not a marathon runner but I'm a good sprinter, really fast short distances. Also quite physically strong, so that helps.

I'm a shit runner.  The only race I ever won, was at sports day in Secondary school, and that was only because all the Moroccans fielded in the race (and we were all Moroccans picked for the long distance race...don't ask me why) passed out throughout the race because it was Ramadan, we were fasting, and it was a very hot day.

I walked the last lap, and shimmy danced over the finish line.

It was a crap way to win, but it was still a fucking win.  Cheesy

Definitely, just have the workout after iftar time by like an hour and a half. I do not recommend training during fasting time because dehydration could be a big problem especially in hot weather. As for diet i recommend eating a lot of protein and fat before fasting to stay full for the entire fast and having more carbs at iftar time before working out.
