    Interesting video.  Thanks for sharing.

    The niqab is a tool of segregation; and it's pretty effective at that.  It serves to preserve the cult (particularly in the west), otherwise the young women will mix with non-Muslims and eventually the (cult) lifestyle will die out.  The hijab is also a tool to a lesser extent.
    This virus/memeplex (religion) has developed all kinds of clever adaptations for survival and this is one of them.

    Lol not exactly the explanation I was expecting.

    One thing I would like to say about the niqab is that you can't tell how a person's feeling. Facial expressions are pretty important, and you can tell from a person's face whether they are happy, sad, angry, etc. So that is one barrier that the niqab brings up. Nevertheless, it appeared that the niqabi girl didn't face any problems wearing the niqab and being integrated (I think).

    I think there have been many, many threads on this forum about the niqab, so I gave my own weird explanation for its purpose from a cultural evolutionary/memetic perspective.  Smiley

    Quite honestly, I think so much about the meme now I see it rather than the niqab. When I look at the women with the niqab there I just see the Islamic meme, infiltrated and deluding the woman. I have nothing against the woman, just the meme that's infected her.

    I don't really think anything of women who cover themselves, well mainly hijabis. I've never seen a niqabi where I live, though my parents in India must have seen plenty, so I don't know what I would think of them.

    In my opinion, memes, memeplexes, etc. these are just new fancy words to describe things that are passed down in all societies likes beliefs, practices, morals, values, ethics, information, etc. Things that are USUALLY harmless. Then again, I'm a 16 year old Hindu boy who's more worried about school starting and a social life than memes  Tongue

    I've always seen the Niqab to be as strange as African people being Christians.

    It was originally forced on them, but now they choose it.

    Good lesson for the future, don't force something people, just say god did it and let human stupidity do the rest.

    That was a very interesting video, thank you OP.
    I went through all three of those stages. I wore hijab for a few years then veil and now nothing so it's interesting to hear all three aspects of this debate in regards to modesty.

    Out of all of that the only thing that stood out for me was Jack Straw's comment on strangers and what makes a community, very naive of him imo.

    I am all for Hijab(dress) Niqab, etc. Afro Even though many do not like it. I have worn hijab and niqab for many years and it makes me feel private and different. It allows me to own my modesty and privacy. I do not get the cat calls and whistles, etc, that I used to get. And that is comforting choice to me.

    According to the video, the niqabi states she dresses that way in order to please her creator and complete her faith.

    So if I understand correctly Allah will not be pleased with you if you do not wear a Niqab. Also faith will not be complete if you do not dress a certain way.

    Therefore can you tell me, according to Qur'an, what would be your situation in the hereafter if you do not please Allah or complete your religion?

    Sometimes after my conversion on the way to the mosque I saw once a brother with his wife (I presume it was her) going to the bus station. She had a niqab but also her eyes were covered so that he has to guide her like she would be blind. I really cried when I saw that. I was really wondering what I am gonna do there with such kind of persons and decided to go back home. I was really shocked.

    I seriously have a problem when talking to people whos Face i cant see. I need to see the mimic, its part of the body language. I hate to talk long on phones, and i certainly cant talk to somone looking like a freaking arab ninja!

    ive heard of single eye patches, but Ive never heard of complete coverings before

    Do you believe that modesty can only be attained through covering up so extremely?

    No one likes wolf whistles, but why should it be on a woman to take steps to avoid that?  Rather than on the men themselves who do it?

    My dad's a cop and he said he runs into issues when it involves the burqa or niqab  because you never know if they could have a gun underneath it or some other weapon to harm him and other officers and you don't know if they're telling the truth.

    IMO, I find it to be tacky and demoralizing. I don't need to cover my full body. I wear modest clothes and if a man cat calls me, I just put him in his place (just telling them I'm asexual and hate men does the trick well).  Cheesy

    comforting choice mhmm......, one thing i know is deep down you yearn to be whitsled at and get cat calls, and when you get those attention, out of guilt you will do something contrary to what you desire such as wearing Niqab or hijab so as to be modest and avoid fear of criticism. but i am sure you will deny all this because allah said so and if you let strand of hair out you will be cursed by 7000(not to sure about the figure but many) angels.

    yeah, you are right, I may be wrong because i have been wrong in some cases.who knows?
    it's just that sometimes when i see people like her using modesty,privacy or comforting card to justify their reasons knowing that there is a real reason behind all that.it irritates me but if that what makes her happy, who am i to tell her not to wear it.

    You know since I am Muslim, I used to see so strange things in this community especially when it comes to the relations between mens and womens. Once we were a few brothers and the imam and we wanted to congratulate a brother for the birth of his new baby; his wife opened the door with her little baby in her arms; the imam reacted like he saw a jinn or a devil; she even has the hijab on and was shocked. There are other of such stories. When they are in the streets, in supermarkets, airports, they see all the day womens even without hijab; how sick is this?

    Thanks for all the comments, criticisms, barbs, etc. The choice one makes in this life truly is his/her choice. I made the choice to cover at a later stage in my religion. I have had my share of cat calls, whistles, etc and find them somewhat demaeaning as I was created as a person and not an animal.

    Since I am probably fresh meat here Cheesy, I am enjoying all the hostility and identity bashing. Actually I have heard heard worse, so it does not bother me. It allows me to
    understand more why one would choose to leave their religion.

    My niqab/hijab does not define who I am inside, my intelligence level nor my right of choice. Thanks for the opinions...keep 'em coming.
