    German Jude-Christian appearance, at some point an ancestor converted but with genetic markers from Europe and the Middle-East. My family goes back as far as the Tribe of Judah supposedly.

    Apparently I polled “other” on this at some point in the past though I don’t remember doing that. Today I was feeling more in tuned with my “sub-Saharan African” side. I really need to do one of those DNA tests. What I remember of family tradition says I’m some sort of mix of black, American Indian, Irish, and Hispanic. I have no idea how that all breaks down.

    I can't find myself caring too much about this, other than having the sort of personal curiosity that you allude to HM. To me it just seems so... pointless. There are more scientific ways, and potentially medically relevant ways to subdivide ourselves than the bullshity ways of "race", "ethnicity", that are almost inevitably used by humans to put an other at disadvantage.

    I'm more so curious from the standpoint of the story my family’s history might lead me to. The story I remember being told as a kid of how my dark-skinned grandfather fell in love with my very fair-skinned grandmother and how they escaped through fields at midnight to marry in another town, pursued by my great-grandfather’s shotgun bullets, has always intrigued me. I know a DNA test wouldn’t tell me everything, but I’d love to at least begin to paint a picture in my mind of how all those backgrounds might have interacted in the deep American south, and further back, where my ancestors might have come from in Europe, Africa, and the Americas. It’s more about the story itself than race.

    I'm Middle African- well, that's what the UN tells me as a black Chadian. My facial shape is diamond; that is to say, equine. My nose appears to have changed its mind halfway to being snub. I blame my mother's possibly Arab ancestors for my ridiculous hair; long (thus, the covet of West Africans), curling and light. I should blame her too for those deep gluteal folds. And since I've started, I would also like to blame my father's side for having a small torso on endless legs. What else was I expecting from belonging to a smaller pastoralist group and their transhumance?

    Aye, now that's a story. Although I'm afraid that DNA testing is very unlikely to offer that much insight into it. I'm not sure if you've watched it, but there was a fascinating documentary I saw on youtube on the subject of Black people in America, and truly how much of a mixture there tends to be. I'm sure you'd be likely to find unexpected heritage somewhere along the line. The documentary had some celebrities like Oprah and Chris Rock. I'll find it for you in a bit.

    While I could not get whiter, I don't think there's anything European left in me. When a man loves his first cousin very very much, and then their kids love their first cousins and so on, and then their kids learn how to make moonshine in mason jars, and then many generations later a large portion of the family begins working with mercury and bringing mercury home for your mother to play with, you wind up with some pretty distinctive specimens, all with slight-to-severe facial indications that something just ain't right.

    Either way, I earned (but never bothered to get the diploma for) an associates in mental health and have a degree in social work (psychology for people who for some reason want work out of the office).
