  • Contradictory fatwa re prayer
     OP - October 27, 2010, 12:51 AM

    Check this out!

    From Ask Imam:

    Quote
Question: Why do we pray five times a day, whereas the Quran says to pray only three times. Please clarify

    Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
    As-salaamu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakaatuh.
The Quran does require us to pray five times a day.

Nafi' ibn Azraq (rahmatullahi alayhi) came to Ibn Abbas (radiyallahu anhu) and said: “Are the five prayers mentioned in the Quran?”

So he (radiyallahu anhu) said: “Yes” and recited: “So glorify Allah when you come up to the evening”   Surah Rum, Verse 17. He said: “Maghrib Prayer.” “and when you enter the morning”  “ Fajr Prayer.” “And His is all the praises and thanks in the heavens and the earth in the afternoon” “Asr Prayer” And read  “And when you enter the time of Dhuhr ”  “Dhuhr Prayer”  And read “and after the Isha prayer, three times are of privacy for you.”1

The narration above makes it clear that the Companions of the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) understood the five prayers to be established from the Quran, since Ibn Abbas (radiyallahu anhu) recited   from Surah Rum, Verse 17 and Surah Noor, Verse 58 in answer to the question posed to him.

    Quote
    Request: Sura 30 Aya 17 to 17
[Shakir 30:17] Therefore glory be to Allah when you enter upon the time of the evening and when you enter upon the time of the morning.
[Pickthal 30:17] So glory be to Allah when ye enter the night and when ye enter the morning -
    [Yusufali 30:17] So (give) glory to Allah, when ye reach eventide and when ye rise in the morning;

    Request: Sura 24 Aya 58 to 58
[Shakir 24:58] O you who believe! let those whom your right hands possess and those of you who have not attained to puberty ask permission of you three times; before the morning prayer, and when you put off your clothes at midday in summer, and after the prayer of the nightfall; these are three times of privacy for you; neither is it a sin for you nor for them besides these, some of you must go round about (waiting) upon others; thus does Allah make clear to you the communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise.
[Pickthal 24:58] O ye who believe! Let your slaves, and those of you who have not come to puberty, ask leave of you at three times (before they come into your presence): Before the prayer of dawn, and when ye lay aside your raiment for the heat of noon, and after the prayer of night. Three times of privacy for you. It is no sin for them or for you at other times, when some of you go round attendant upon others (if they come into your presence without leave). Thus Allah maketh clear the revelations for you. Allah is Knower, Wise.
[Yusufali 24:58] O ye who believe! let those whom your right hands possess, and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission (before they come to your presence), on three occasions: before morning prayer; the while ye doff your clothes for the noonday heat; and after the late-night prayer: these are your three times of undress: outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other: Thus does Allah make clear the Signs to you: for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.

Since the Companions were the best generation, and Allah is pleased with them as stated in the Quran, the safest way to Paradise is to follow in their footsteps.

NEITHER of those ayats instruct Muslims to pray 5x a day.  It's in the hadith which the imam goes on to explain to the questioner.

So, according to the ulama, the five daily prayers ARE in the Qu'ran but you have to look at the hadith first to realize that!   piggy

God doesn't or won't use simple language. He is deliberately complicating things so that you develop your listening skills!Praise be to the almighty Allah, whose ways we can't question.
Ours is not to reason why but to pray and die!

If you need to read hadith to understand the Quran then the Quran could have been made more clear, which means it could have been improved, which makes it imperfect.

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

By the way, I posted it on naseeb, and someone provided me proper proof of all the 5 prayers, and I become speechless:

From first link after searching "5 prayers in Quran"
"(1) The Dawn Prayer (Fajr in Arabic) given in 11:114, 24:58
    (2) The Noon Prayer (Zuher in Arabic) , given in 17:78 and 30:18
    (3) The Afternoon Prayer (Asr in Arabic), given in 2:238
    (4) The sunset Prayer (Maghrib in Arabic), given in 11:114
    (5) The Night Prayer (Isha in Arabic), given in 24:58 "

    (1) The Dawn Contact Prayer is mentioned by name in 24:58. Before sunrise.
    (2) The Noon Contact Prayer is specified in 17:78. When the sun declines.
    (3) The Afternoon Contact Prayer is in 2:238. Midway between noon & sunset.
    (4) The Sunset Contact Prayer is mentioned in 11:114. Immediately after sunset.
    (5) The Night Contact Prayer is in 11:114, and is mentioned by name in 24:58.
