  • The difficulties of living as a Muslim in Germany
     OP - November 02, 2010, 07:01 PM

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/news/2010/11/101102_shahada_et_sl.shtml

A film about the difficulties of living as a Muslim in Germany is contributing to the discussion there about multiculturalism.

Chancellor Merkel said last month that her country's multicultural approach had failed.

The film, Shahada, which opened in Berlin last month and is now touring film festivals worldwide, tells the stories of various young German Muslims struggling with the bounds of Islamic convention.

Its director is Burhan Qurbani, who is German and from an Afghan family.

I heard about this film (surprisingly) on Al-Jazeera English. I really wanna watch it! There's a similar film called "On the path" its about a young bosnian muslim couple who are quite liberal, drink alcohol etc. and then the guy gets influenced by "wahhabis"  lol

I hope the moral of the story is a good one, rather than praising fundamentalism - although if its al-jazeera, then who knows..

I actually quite like the English Version of Al Jazeera, I think they are far more reliable than the BBC.   They've surprised me many times with their reports.  Obviously I expect them to be biased in certain issues and I'm not holding my breath when it comes to criticising the Qatar government, but their reports are interesting and I do like seeing alternative perspectives..  Not sure about the Arabic version.

The Arabic Jazeera is the equivalent of Fox but like 10 times worse. They openly endorse Saddam and Islamists and sometimes refer to Palestinian suicide bombers as "martyrs".
