I took a road trip from Texas to Idaho ( approx 24 drive time) and I finished

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time

Absolutely amazing.  His story is inspirational, not because he thought he was destined to do this, but in the accidental way he stumbled upon his mission and the way it consumed him.  Like someone said and I would actually agree this man deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, not for his grandous gestures towards peace but because his gestures are so personable, so individual.

god is not Great by Christopher Hitchens

Normally I wouldn't recommend an audiobook, but it is narrated by Hitchens himself and his cadence and style makes the audiobook, in my opinion, better than the simple written text

    Lolita en Tehran

I am not a literary person, but I was captivated by how the author was able to relate literary works to her small group of students and their lives.

No True Glory: A Frontline Account of the Battle for Fallujah

One of the more comprehensive books about a battle that I have read.  It moves easily from the big picture of politics and strategy to the events on the ground.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda, one of the first to bring yoga to the States. At first I had a hard time reading it and even put it down for a few months. Then I realized that this was due to my previous indoctrination regarding shirk and blah, blah, blah. I definitely recommend it. Although I'm not in search of a religion pre se, I  do like to read about people's experiences with the unseen, and even the most ardent skeptic would have a hard time discounting Yogananda's experiences as wishful thinking or synchronicity. He could be a liar though, but he doesn't strike me as such.

Game Theory (A Very Short Introduction) By Ken Binmore Read three chapters, it's way above my head and uninteresting. I want to apply practical use but the book doesn't help me pursue my goal.

So switched to Bill Bryson - A Short History of Nearly Everything

    What were his experiences?

Well, there are many from the time he was a child I suspect up until he died. (Haven't read it all yet.)  One of my favorites is his encounter with the saint with two bodies. Basically, he goes on an errand for his father to a swami and the swami not only knows who he is although he has never met him, but also knows clairvoyantly that he is in search of a third person. The swami is able to bilocate and finds the man and in seemingly bodily form asks him to come to his home as soon as he can and takes his leave of him. Meanwhile, he has been sitting with the author the whole time in a state of meditation. The summoned man shows up and the two visitors are both speechless when they discover that the swami was with both of them at two different places at the same time.

Read it if you want more!:))

Woah, you read a lot.  Smiley

I've read "Post Office"! But I think I didn't finish it. I dunno why, I seem to remember enjoying it. Blame my jumping from book to book even when I'm not done with one yet.  Tongue

I do that as well Smiley

I used to read a lot when I was a teenager. But with old age came weed and peer-pressure (only nerds read books [outside of school/uni]). Now all I have left is the weed

Don't be hatin' on Yogananda! Sure, some of it is that "need to see it to believe it" stuff, but I think it's good to know what the possibilities may be in order to have any hope of exploring them further. Call it broadening your horizons.

It's about his alter-ego Henry Chinaski and it's not really about anything in that sense, there is no really plot or narrative. He travels city to city, job to job, getting fired from every job, drinks a lot, bets on horses, argues and fights with his woman and tries to write sometimes. It's realistic fiction and is well-written but the negativity and bitterness can't be too much sometimes.
