     OP - November 07, 2010, 06:13 PM

    Hey guys,

You've got a great website here.

I'm an ex muslim from Pakistan. Recently I spent some time studying overseas, where I was exposed to a lot of people from different religions, as well as atheists. I haven't been particularly religious for a long time anyhow, but after living overseas and being free to investigate Islam from an objective point of view, I stopped believing in it completely.

Sadly I only had 2 years on my visa, and it was during the same time as I gave up Islam that my visa was running out, and soon I flew back home. It was a strange experience to be an atheist in Pakistan for the first time, hearing the azan, having conversations with people in which they often say things like 'mashallah,' 'inshallah', etc.

Anyway, I'm planning to take some exams and save up some money, and most likely I should be able to return back overseas sometime in 2012. I'm just joining here to talk to other ex muslims and blow off steam during the remaining 1-2 years I have to spend in Pakistan Smiley.

The journey was fairly simple. Apart from a few months when I was 9-10 years old, I've never been very religious, in fact I hated all the rules of islam, e.g prayers, keeping a beard, lowering your eyes on seeing a girl, not watching movies, not listening to music, etc. I couldn't see the sense in most of those rules. I also read the translation of quran several times, and didn't find anything miraculous there like all the mullahs claim there is...

Eventually sometime last year I started to research islam from an unbiased point of view. I learnt about the life of mohammed, jihad, evolution, and a lot of things. Eventually all my beliefs about islam just started to fall apart, and I simply stopped believing.

I think I saw a youtube video which had a link to this forum, and that led me here.

It was a strange experience to be an atheist in Pakistan for the first time, hearing the azan, having conversations with people in which they often say things like 'mashallah,' 'inshallah', etc.

In addition to some household phrases in the Pakistani lexicon:

    "Allah tumare daw'a kabool kare"
    "Allah ke taruff se"
    "Allah ke hathao me hein"
    "Allah maaf kare"
    "Allah jaan bachale"

My mom gets compulsive with this when speaking to relatives over the phone.

    Welcome brother in kafirness.

The first rule of CEMB is that you do not talk about CEMB.

The second rule of CEMB is that you do NOT talk about CEMB.

The third rule is that you should ignore the above two rules, as well as the various Sunnah.

Same goes for the infiltration of Arabic dress in Pakistan.  I was once reprimanded for saying "khuda-hafiz" because khuda was the name for Hindu god, and was corrected "Allah-hafiz"

That is the absolut dumbest thing I have ever heard. It's a persian loanword for Khuda's Sake. Khuda means God in Persian. Wtf is wrong with people?!

    Khuda Hafiz

Khuda Hafiz (Perso-Arabic: خُدا حافِظ, Devanāgarī: ख़ुदा हाफ़िज़ khudā hāfiz), usually shortened to Khodafez in Persian,is a parting phrase traditionally used by Persian, Kurdish, and South Asian Muslims. The locution is the most common parting phrase among both non-Muslims and Muslims in Afghanistan & Iran; it is also sometimes used by non-Muslims of the Indian Subcontinent, such as Hindus and Christians.

    Meaning

It can be translated as "May God be your Guardian": Khuda, which is Persian for God (and also an Indo-European cognate of the English word God[citation needed]), and hāfiz from Arabic hifz "protection". The phrase is a loanword from Persian into the Kurdish, Punjabi, Urdu in Pakistan, Hindi in India, and Bengali languages.

    Transliterations

Transliterations may also include Khudā Hāfiz, Khudā Hāfez, and Khodā Hāfiz, or Allah Hafiz. One would traditionally respond with replying Khudā Hāfiz or Allah Hafiz.
