  • Beer is blargh!
     OP - November 12, 2010, 07:43 PM

So I decided to try beer today for the first time in my life and I was amazed by how disgusting it is! Why would anyone want to drink that?

I'm open for debate (of why we should re-/embrace Islam), but I will no longer participate in this forum. Message me if you need anything. Good luck and may you all find your way... again...

Yes it is indeed.  It tastes absolutely foul.  However many people like it so each to their own.

Obviously, we don't have to drink beer just because we left Islam to prove a point.

It took me quiet a while to get used to it.. Initially, our body resist taste of beer or any other alcohol, and you would not get wasted after many drinks. But trust me, you would start to enjoy it later..

Initially, you should rather try sweet varieties of alcohol like Margarita or Pina colada..
Both are available at grocery stores as they aren't alcoholic yet. For Margarita, you have to mix 75% of margarita mix with 25% of Tequila. Make sure you salt the rim of the glass before pouring anything.. (put salt in a plate, make the glass rim wet very slightly with water and put the glass upside down on salt. The whole rim should have some salt in it by now.) Now pour the margarita mix and tequila and enjoy..
Not sure how pina colada is prepared.

Oh come on, there is such a wide variety of beer types, each with their own dimensions.  Here's a beer evaluation sheet outlining the different kinds of properties:
    http://www.beerology.ca/pdf/beerology_tasting_sheet.pdf

Also note that, if you've never had it before, beer is sometimes an acquired taste.  I know plenty of people, including myself, who didn't like it that much at first, but eventually grew to appreciate the finer beers.

Well Telomeme I'll be honest I really like non-alcoholic beer. It's like the presence of alcohol ruined the taste. Also, what really bothered me is the "finish"

Don't turn alcoholic, but try to know and develop the taste of it. It really helps in social gatherings.

The last time I tried non-alcoholic beer, I almost vomited.  I guess that's because I've already acquired a taste and expectations for what beer should taste like and the non-alcoholic stuff didn't measure up.

I USED to drink. Haven't had a drink in months now! But yeah he knew. He was 'misguided' himself back then coz he used to smoke weed, didn't really blame him, most of his mates do. And I think most students here do as well!

Most of the muslim students do which there, smoke weed or dabble in alcohol?

A lot of the muslim guys smoke weed or know someone who does. But like the ones who smoke it almost daily stop 70 days before small eid apparently your prayers aren't accepted for 30 days if you take intoxicants and they want to act all 'pious' during ramadhan  Roll Eyes

Yeah I know, happened with all my ex-muslim groupies too.  Because Allah banned alchohol, they decided to turn to drugs instead  Roll Eyes

Meh, good for them.  I guess sometimes it's better to be a hypocrite (when it harms no one) than to be that bit more irrational.

Not in there case, as they believe Islam is rational.  In which case they are choosing to be a hypocrite over being rational.  No wonder they do it with such a heavy heart and a wry grin on their face.

Its all about rebellion, shame it cant be redirected in a more useful manner but then the buck stops again with religion.  Its little wonder Muslims are at the top of the crack game nowadays.

Pina colada is really nice, I think they include coconut cream, pinapple juice and some other stuff.

I've not really tried beer/lager except a sip of it, can't remember which and I didn't like it. The smell of both is not nice either.

Why does it have to be rebellion?  Cannabis, alcohol and sex are the dog's bollocks.

Curbing otherwise harmless desires for religion is irrational. I'd rather be a hypocrite and have a blast than to fool myself further into thinking I'm in any way being rational by continuing to restrain myself from the goodness of life.

You wont find me disagreeing with you.  My point was that it is rebellion in the holy world of Allah, Muhammed & Mecca.  Certainly not in ours.

Oh sorry, I now see how you thought that I was pointlessly defending our own position.  I was actually talking about the religious.  I'm just saying that their natural hedonistic desires should be taken into account and that it doesn't have to automatically be a rebellious act if they were to explore such things as sex, alcohol and drugs.

Yuck, I hate beer too. I remember having a sip of my dad's beer by accident when I was 3 and spit it up. I did it again 4 years ago and did the same thing. Nasty, nasty stuff. I like creme de menthe and kalua though.

Then again, I have to be careful. Alcoholism runs in my family. That's why I tried Islam.

Probably touch alcohol in the future, but wouldn't consider ever touching any form of harmful drugs. Seen the effects far too early on people  Wink
