  • Voting rights for ex-convicts?
     OP - November 20, 2010, 06:55 PM

    I think it's a disgrace that ex-criminals cannot vote in some countries/jurisdictions.

    Whatcha think?

Yes, its a way of reintergrating them into society & making them feel part of the mainstream.  Continuing to ostracise just spells more trouble in the long run.

I think they should be allowed to vote so long as they truly have served their sentence and are not on any "tagging scheme" plans or anything post-serving their time.

Was going to say this myself.. Heck we have criminals who lounge about in parliaments and claim to represent us, surely there can be no objection to an excon having a vote

"Modern man's great illusion has been to convince himself that of all that has gone before he represents the zenith of human accomplishment, but can't summon the mental powers to read anything more demanding than emoticons. Fascinating. "

Is that a fact? Fucking unbelievable!

Surely such regulation is in conflict with the EU's human rights legislation?

There are states in America where you can't vote if you're an ex-convict.

My bad. Had a blonde moment.

I misread countries for counties and thought you were also referring to UK.
