Imran Khan's capability is hyped amongst Pakistani politics.

Great cricketer though, what a legend.

Anyway I find Imran fascinating - he's a thoroughly modern Muslim. In as much that when he was young he spent his life shagging and drinking, was a fixture on the London Sloane set party circuit, sired children out of wedlock, then when he hit middle age he rediscovered his religion and ummah and became an Islamo-bore. A defining narrative, that.

Cynical as I am I primarily see his transformation as a marketing ploy - he saw that there is an abundance of people with deficient cognitive abilities that would want to buy his stuff and he started selling it (even though tbh his politics/narrative likely reflect his real values at least somewhat).

    Smart man.

I much prefer the younger Imran, by all accounts, great company at a party  Afro

Yeah, same goes for Anjem Choudary.

    who Imran Khan??

well he is not that type of islmaist who will shove his religious ideology on others.. but definitely   a good Muslim guy , good person who understand very little background of Islam/Quran/Early Islamic History

Mohammad Ali Jinnah was an Anglophile, Oxford educated, London loving barrister of Lincolns Inn. Presumably he was unsuited to leading Pakistan  Huh?

Oh yeah I agree there are many nuances amongst Islamists. I meant Thamina. She sounds like an atheist Islamist, which is really interesting combination.

That would only be the  case if she considered Black people as not being "from the people" but she's never said anything like that.

I never meant it in terms of race, which is kinda ironic considering I support a pashtun who never will become leader thanks to the bigotry and racism many non-pashtuns show.

Someone who UNDERSTANDS and DOES what the people want from him/her. I don't regard the elitists as being from the people coz they never have UNDERSTOOD the hardship the majority face! Like when the floods happened and zardari was in london he was living in a 5* hotel that cost like £7,000 PER night whilst hundreds of thousands were going without basic shelter!

Thats because he's a personally corrupt man with a feudal overlord sense of entitlement. Not because he (or any other) Pakistani politician was educated in the West.

That is true, look at nawaz sharif I don't think he's secular or 'westernised' but he's as corrupt as zardari.  But that's how its perceived as by the majority (western educated=western puppets) add the propaganda done by certain groups and its easy to see why the 'talibanisation' of Pakistani is happening. I even see it here, when the more liberal pakistanis are referred to as 'gorahfied pakis'  Cheesy

Nawaz Sharif education history from wiki:

    Quote
Sharif attended St. Anthony's School Lahore. However, he along with his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif later on attended Pakistan Railway High School, Moghalpura, Lahore and both of them passed Matric from this school in 1964 and 1965 respectively. Nawaz Sharif got addmission in the Government College of Lahore. He obtained his B.A. degree after appearing in the supplementary examination. He claimed that he passed his Bachelor of Law degree from the Punjab University Law College, also in Lahore. He, however session he attended is unknown. Nawaz Sharif is a joint owner of Ittefaq Group. Ittefaq Group is one of the largest business conglomerates in Pakistan. He helped establish the Ittefaq Islamic Academy in Lahore, where students receive religious instruction in addition to their secular training. A practicing Moslem, Sharif comes from a religious family and has said he would make the teaching of the Quraan, the Muslim Holy Book, a compulsory subject up to the secondary level.

That means he must be the perfect leader for Pakistan.

All this baloney about a western educated person shouldn't lead Pakistan is Maududi-ist nonsense. Pakistan's leadership has failed because they've just carried on the feudal overlord mentality which thinks it is entitled to exploit the country for their personal game.

Regarding that foaming at the mouth religious maniac Maulana Mawdudi - even though he spent his life raging against the evil satanic rotten corrupt West, he sent all of his children to universities there. Says it all really, doesn't it.

Too simplistic. I am sure they would fix the problem if they easily could.  Just because somebody has not starved to death, it doesnt mean they cant appreciate that its not a desirable state of being.

btw does Imran Khan belong to this elite?

OK then, next time he comes over to the UK, I'm gonna tell him to sleep in the River Thames to fix the corruption problem over there  Afro

Yes bcoz he talks facts  Wink

He's not popular bcoz he's from the 'wrong' ethnicity and has (falsely) been accused of being a mouthpiece of the taliban. lol so what if he married her? Bringing a non-muslim into the family and Islam actually something most pakistanis are proud of---as long as a son does it and not a daughter lol

That's bcoz he started to see things from the pakistani POV and not a 'western' POV. I think his party will surprise everyone at the next general election that's if they run and if no military coup takes place  whistling2
