    I think we need this collection too. My boss is Christian, and we are a group of a few hindus, few atheists and few christians by name only. I want a bunch of questions ready for next week..Tongue

    Anyways, a hindu girl nicely raised a good question.

    "After the world was created, Adam and Eve were the only two humans. And we are all their children. How come they all follow different religions".

    My boss's reply:

    "Lets go back to 6 ancestors back of yours, and traverse through their whole tree until now. How many people do you personally know?"

    Me:

    "I completely agree that it is not necessarily possible that they are all following same religion. But there is reason for it, and that is environmental factors and peer pressures. But if you go back to Adam and Eve's time, they were two people, one religion. Where did all the other religions come from?"

    many of the difficult questions regarding Islam, can be immediately applied to christianity without changing a bit

    Not really! I tried it but failed!

    The reason is he does not believe Bible to be literal word of God. All the things are metaphorical and written by humans. Also there isn't too much violent parts I know that apply to christianity.

    I haven't asked him, but he talks about Israel alot as he had been there. He was talking about wars. I told him that is what religion does to people. He answered, "depends on what religion".

    He is Republican but his wife is Democrat. So he is a bit open minded, but not a lot.

    Christianity has been so modernised, reformed and turned on it's head that there's not much that will make them awkward.

    Only the Christian Fundies/Evangelicals can be made to look like the idiots they are - and you can use many of the same questions used for Islam with some modifications.

    Muddy, ask him if he understands the metaphorical meaning of Jesus' death on the cross considering the fact that god-the father is inseparable from god-the son?

    I'm all for going after the "moderates" (who shield to the whackos), but this seems like a lost cause and will only end up in animosity. Like Hassan said, Christianity is for most people nothing but a watered down version of its former state. I mean...even certain interpretations of Islam are following that path and turning into stricly identitarian and/or ethnic.

    The best way is to require him to back up his extraordinary claims with extraordinary evidence. Ask him also why this god of his allows children to die slow painful death.

    Best question to ask Christians: "Exactly, what did Jesus lose in his so called sacrifice, in order for it to be a sacrifice?"

    And, according to their denomination, different kind of lulz scenarios will ensure.

    Some think Jesus is "God the Son" and he knew about it, so they will have no real answer and will just struggle.
    Some think Jesus is "God the Son" but he did not know about it, so they will realize they end up saying that Jesus had an "apparent sacrifice" (cause he thought he was really going to lose something) and in reality they end up saying that Jesus had no clue what he was saying/doing (which is lulz).
    A few rare non-trinitarian will claim that Jesus lost "his mortal life", but the above still applies: either he was 100% sure humans effectively have an immortal soul (in which case he lost nothing: if i knew i were immortal i'd kill myself daily just out of curiosity) or he had no clue what he was doing/saying ^_^

    And that is, in my opinion, the best argument against Christianity because it attacks the core belief that is the common theme of every brand of Christianity out there.

    Ask him if he believes in Hell.

    Ask him if he believes in the accounts of the wars in the Old Testament.

    If he answers yes to both ask him why (1) God, being all-powerful and all-knowing would create human beings he knew would sin against him then he would torture his own creations for all eternity, isn't that like having a kid you know will be a psychopath before you create him, so you can be justified in repeatedly beating him, and (2) why an all-good God orders his followers to commit acts that would today be considered genocide at worst and heinous war crimes at best?

    As for (1) QueenIsabel has been unable to answer that, and neither has my Muslim brother (well he has but he's resorted to heterodoxy/borderline heresy in claiming that although God is all-powerful, he's not all-knowing, and almost everyone gets into heaven anyways so it's not a big deal).

    How was it moral for god to order the Israelites to kill everyone except the young virgin females?

    (Usual response: It's moral because god said so)

    If humans have no understanding of morality without god then how do you know that god is not lying to us in the bible?

    I prefer to keep religion out of all work related scenarios, especially when it's a boss. Plus, it would be really hard to pin him down since everything would be 'metaphorical'. The Bible has some pretty vile stuff in it, but you'd have to bring up some tough questions, which will probably start to annoy him.

    Importantly though, if the verse which says not to stone the woman accused of adultery was added by a human hundreds of years after the fact, then surely Christians should still be stoning adulterers?

    Sorry, but I am still confused.

    So the only laws Christians need to now abide by are
    1: Love god
    2: Love your neighbour as yourself

    What about not killing, or stealing, or committing adultery, or coveting your neighbours ox?  Are you now allowed to work on the Sabbath? Are you allowed to eat Bacon and shell fish?

    No, it really has not been a help at all.

    People could not eat shrimps or bacon, then Jesus died and now they can - whilst at work on the Sabbath.  How does that make sense?  Why would the death of Jesus have *any* impact on whether or not you can eat a bacon sandwich?  How does a pig go from being unclean to being clean?  Why wouldn't god just make pigs clean to start with rather than putting them into a group of constraints which means that Jesus needs to die in order to make it possible to eat them?

    I am trying to understand the point.  The bible said that pigs were "unclean."  So how did Jesus dying on a cross make them clean?  Either the pigs were clean to start with, or they are unclean now.  Jesus dying on a cross didn't alter the genetic makeup of pigs, or change their life styles.

    I think that the act of homosexuality being revolting was in the old law system, and that Jesus made it all better.  But what about sex outside of marriage? God didn't say that was revolting did he?

    Because genetics and/or GOD mutated their genes?  Every baby in the womb
    are the same sex for up to the first six to eight weeks.  Its only after
    that their sexual organs are formed.  One person in 2,000 have ambiguous
    genitalia.  Then there are the hermaphrodites who have both parts,
    are half and half.  So lets say you have one with breasts, but they
    also have a penis, but also have an ovary and a menstral cycle. 
    You condone the removal of his/her penis?  One "person" had
    a vagina and a womb, but she did not have ovaries, but testicles
    instead, and no breasts.  What does this person do?  Especially
    when they develop and start growing a beard and hair on the
    body?  Then their voice changes, as well.

    The LORD instructed Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply.
    Does this only apply to full females and full males?  So anyone
    BORN OF GOD who has is intersexed, the simplest answer is for them
    to remain single, never to have a fulfilling relationship with another
    human being?  Are you SURE thats what god wants for them?

    And still waiting on the scriptural referenct to

    love God with your whole heart, soul and mind.

    they are.  Must really do their mental health and spirituality a world of good!
