this was actually feautured on richard dawkins website glad he cares
This is good news. The comments at the bottom of that page were all very supportive so hopefully this will translate into some generosity from the wider secularist/atheist/agnostic/humanist community.
STANDING ORDER MANDATE
Thanks for getting these details Hassan. I vaguely recall Jeremy Clarkson, yes Mr twatty car man, being the victim of his own smugness, when he claimed that no one could do anything malicious if they just had your bank account sort code and account number. To prove his point he published his account details in this column, in The Current Bun I think, with which someone signed him up to an ongoing direct debit to Oxfam. Not sure what, if any, risks there are with publicising bank account details, but it make be worth looking into this before they are published on the CEMB donation page. Maybe a statement "To arrange regular donations by standing order, please contact Mr Magoo at M.Magoo@ex-muslim.org.uk", or the like may be a better idea?
Alright, well since I've paid CEMB, can you pay yourself an extra £100 on my behalf retrospectively?
Just kidding - I'm not that cheap (well .. ahem ... ) ... I'll wait until next payday.
Good luck with your training. Do stretch your ITB's, they shortened up and got me injured before a marathon last year :(
I'll happily transfer £100 from my wallet to my own bank account on your behalf. We can call the recipient charity "Chris in Need". I just saw that you've sponsored me as well, thanks so much HO, really appreciate how generous so many of you have been towards the BHA...though I'm feeling the pressure now and am going to have to shake this chest infection off pretty quick and start doing some running so you're not all bitterly disappointed by me keeling over midway round
.
Please delete me from the above, mate. I do not want anyone sending me cheques.
I'm afraid I wouldn't feel comfortable handling cheque on behalf of the CEMB either.
However, unless I'm missing something, why can't anonymous donations be made by making a cheque payable to CEMB and sending to "BM Box 1919, London WC1N 3XX, UK", as per the instructions on the donation page (
http://ex-muslim.org.uk/indexDonate.html) (you have to scroll down a bit on the page to see this info). Please correct me if I'm spouting nonsense, but as far as I can recall, when I make cheques out, my bank statement just shows the cheque number and the amount paid, not the recipient in any form. Also, I should think that if you did donate to the BHA for my half-marathon, your bank statement would only show the details of the payment recipient, which is the website "everyclick.com" (this is just a generic fundraising site). Please note though that I've just checked my fundraising page and as I've got over £100 in sponsorship from CEMBers already, I won't be able to match any more donations so, whilst I'd love you to sponsor me and the BHA will use the money to good effect, it wouldn't increase CEMB funds directly.
