Dear brothers in religion,
We all know that Muslims enjoy playing the card of "But Muslims were very advanced in science during the Golden age,- Arabic was the language of science, and it westerners used to be taught by Muslims! They made many contributions to science".
Well. You know what I mean.. And sure NO, I don't deny any of those things, for sure there were many great scientist (who happened to be born in Islamic countries.. )

The main problem is that Muslims shamelessly use those scientists to impress the kafir, and to consolate themselves with "we might be backwards now, but we were once the trendsetter on science".
However,- a great deal of those scientists/philosophers were in fact NOT belonging to the "one true sect of Islam": Indeed,- many were Mu'tazilah, or in other ways TOO rationalist, TOO freethinking: Something which the Muslims must abhorr and detest! It might lead to great blasphemy! In fact, it is not even sure whether scientists like Omar Khayyam were even Muslims, while we know for sure that Al-Moarri and Al-Razi were certainly non-religious.

I thought.. Let me tell you this, it might come in handy perhaps some time..

Its really a pointless point for several reasons.
Not the least of them being that Unless said discoveries were made as a direct result of revelation.....what do they have to do with the religion being true are not or even if the religion is any good or not?
For example, the Hindus and pagan greeks laid the foundations that the muslims built on in their work, does that then follow that sacrificing bulls to Zeus or praying to Shiva contributions to science?
This continues from the last point, Issac Newton believed all kinds of batshit religious stuff. He spent half his time trying to decode revelations and stuff like that. Yet I dont think anyone is going to start making the argument that being a christian obsessed with the 'end times' contributes to developing calculus.
Either way, its such a silly thing to harp about, since the whole premise is off. That the 'ummah' a thousand years ago was in good shape relative to post fall of Rome Europe means what really? Its 2011. Its like Leafs fans bragging about their organization because they won a lot of cups decades ago even though they barely make the playoffs these days

What Islam did bring was to bring overall domination to a region, thus eliminating conflicts. With peace and time to think great minds will think of great things. It would have been the same for any overall ruling power to have taken control, as long as it still gave people leisure time.
