  • Organ Donation
     OP - June 21, 2011, 12:04 PM

So to let my parents know, in case I crash and die and my organs are still healthy, I'm using the "Islamic scholars said it's alright" to justify to them it is alright and acceptable to be a registered organ donor. I just won't tell them about the specifics of illogical "soul killing".

    Quote
If the donation is of an organ on which life depends, such as the heart or liver, it is not permissible to donate it, according to the consensus of the scholars, because that is killing a soul.

    So:
    Anyone else a donor?
Anyone feel there is good reason not to be a donor?

    Absolutely.

There is no good reason not to be a donor.

I'm already an organ donor without my parents knowledge, they're completely against it for no apparent justifiable reason. So I haven't told them and there's no need for them to know anyway.

I'm afraid there is.  Even if you're carrying an organ donor card, your next of kin can still refuse to allow it.

if organ donation is 'killing a soul'(which is supposedly immortal) then does that mean that if Allah exists, we've basically escaped hell? since we won't fully exist anymore to be judged by the big man himself, surely organ donation is a way make sure that you're not going to hell whether allah exists or not?

sounds like a new wager to me

Just got my organ donor card over the weekend, tried to tell my mother about it, but she started laying into my ass for doing so, so only my sisters know.

It makes me chuckle knowing that maybe, just maybe, someone will look at my corpse, see that my organs are in prime condition and feel some kind of . . . uncomfortable emotion that I am not a donor; and really, isn't that what makes life worth enduring? Someone might even die because of my choice. That makes me feel pretty good to think about, hence the good reason.

Its stupid that your next of kin can refuse it even if you are a donor. What has it got anything to do with them? I fail to see the logic in this! Anyone know if there is a good reason?

I'm a donor. My parents were pissed when they found out. Dad just passed it off as me being a hippy (still angry though). My auntie told me that you can still feel when you are dead so I will be in pain when they start to cut me up :\

I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't be able to accept organ donations unless you are a donor yourself. You're a hypocrite otherwise.
