  • CEMB Book Club
     OP - July 27, 2011, 08:19 PM

As Al-Marri suggested, We can nominate books and  have a voting poll every month. Falling on a book should not take over a week and when people are done they can find the thread and post what they'd like to bring up.

I'm hoping we can start by next Wednesday?
It will be the 4th day of Ramadan, but mainly the second day of my arrival back to what's "home" now.

Poll runs for 3 days? such a newbie..don't know how long it should be.

    Feel free to add suggestions.

    These words echoed here.  Grin

I like reading but I dunno how well I would function in a book club.

If I see you guys reading a book I want to read then I will join in, but even then I might fail to hit the deadline because I've wafted off somewhere.  But worth a try i guess.

    Lol

I tend to use a program mainly zap it with two words flashing on the screen at about 500wpm with a total combined speed of 1000wpm, on a hard-copy it is much faster though about 1200 words a minute and with skimming/scanning this can be double. But anything with %s and numbers dates an unique words can really slow you down. I have about 65% comprehension when I do this, though if I read at about 200wpm with a combined 400wpm then I have about 90% comprehension. I am a dyslexic believe it or not, I can't spell but I can read better then most folks, I suck at math and numbers though hate numbers can me really confusing.

I read in my mind, if you get what that means, I don't sound the words out, they are just flashed in my mind like objects and colors. This is why my spelling is so bad, I know the color of the word in my mind but I can't figure out how it's spelled lol.

Basically it looks something like this:

But all words with unique shapes and colors.

    Maybe you have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyscalculia

I have had something similar since my coma, some unexplained brain trauma that makes numbers swim infront of me in a way that actually does hurt my brain.  I used to be soooooooo good at maths, top scores, but now I struggle.  But it is like I said to my math's tutor this year, I don't fucking need to know anything more than how to deal with money and weed, so I'm good.

But anyway maybe you have that with numbers, although you still do maths better than me.

For all your trolldom, I still see you as pretty smart.   Afro

Thanks, I think the only reason why I might come across as being able to do math if I do online its not too much of a problem I can understand the concept I just can't work the numbers, I'll forget the numbers. I understand the concept of mathematics but I just can't put that into use. For me, my mind just goes blank when I need to do math. Sometimes I struggle with basic multiplication, just on time. For example if I go into a shop and I think I've been short changed I need to go away some place and do the math when no one is looking I can't do it on the spot.

Same here actually.  I tend to go off with the reciept to go over it if I think something is up because I can't do it on the spot, or with people watching.

It's the same with flying, if you are watching me I can't fly, but if you close your eyes, trust me, I am doing my supergirl impression.

Supergirl impression lol I have people watching me like on TV or on stage I am acting/being myself to a phantom audience. Sometimes I can be real folks for example if I am reading Dawkins book then I can talk to Dawkins I can get into a real debate. I've never had the same feeling for Allah I can picture him as some flowing darkness but I can't have the sense of feeling him there like I can with my audience or Dawkins, same with dead folks like when you go to a grave yard I can't 'talk to the dead' it seems so stupid.

But sometimes I can really mess with myself when I start thinking about 4th dimensions watch this (Carl Sagan's clip on 4th dimensions)   and you'll never be able to have a relaxing shit!:

I would do the same thing with receipts , but slowly i started being able to focus despite someone standing there waiting for me to move along, and i think that happened when i chose to pay in exact amounts if i had it ( Coins) so , i'd have to  linger a bit longer looking through my wallet picking the coins i needed.  They expect the money so they are not officially waiting for nothing.

^ still a bit nerve wrecking to "act" on the spot or ask questions and be able to focus. I've had to move along numerous times without feeling i have understood 100% and the feeling Sucks, but within our daily life there is so much to know which time almost doesn't permit to look into. and then i think i need to chill cuz stressing about it does not register any info in me head!!
