Domestic dogs and cats are acceptable pets because they wouldn't survive in the wild but tropical pets are a big no no.

It's illegal to catch them from the wild and sell them. She was born to captive parrots and was raised by people.

By that logical all animals shouldn't be kept as pets, even dogs and cats can survive in the wild.

Just sayin that being cooped up in a cage is not a good life for a bird and that it can lead a more satisfactory life living out in the wild. Doesn't matter whether they are bred in captivity. Pet stores are NOT known for their humane treatment of animals.

"What would be best for parrots is if they never became pets" (PRoject Perry Inc.)

Just read this link on bird mills.   http://www.examiner.com/article/bird-mill-s-the-untold-story-of-where-exotic-birds-come-from

Even in a zoo the parrot would be better off because it still as room to fly around.  The same goes with fish in the sea.

And I don't think small dogs (chewawa) or even medium sized dogs(golden retriever) could survive out in the wild for long when competing with hyenas, coyotes, foxes and wolves. Let alone your typical house cat which is a very poor hunter and would not be able to escape larger predators in the wild. Domestic animals have been changed significantly through artificially selection and they no longer have the traits to compete with their wild relatives.

So it's ok to keep domestic animals but for tropical animals they are better off in the wild and we humans need to learn to leave them alone. You honestly think your parrot wouldn't live a better life when it is with members of it's own species.  They are social creatures and can interact better other parrots than with humans.

The only place other than the wild are zoos or reserves for endangered species so that there are several populations and gene pools around in case of a disaster.

People please educate yourself and ensure we treat our fellow species with the respect they deserve.

I wish. The Dangerous WIld Animals Act 1976 means that the costs of keeping one are very high indeed (as they should be).

    He is, isn't he?

I may have been on a windup at the time. Mainly to see whether it'd make TDR's head explode. Sorry, TDR, but you were coming off awfully self-righteous where it really wasn't necessary.

I wish I could get a dog but the mrs won't allow it in the house :( Always wanted either a Boxer or a Dogue de Bordeaux, or Old English Bulldog.

Mate she's heartless when it comes to puppies. Islam calls dogs dirty so she can't stand them being in the house which sucks. My cats probably make more of a mess than a dog would. That is a bloody cute puppy though!

It's a thorough bred German Shepherd.
