The best thing that could happen now is for it to rain down endlessly the next few days. Not just London but Birmingham too. Aston, Lozells, Handsworth are riot turf.

This is stupid rebel without a cause.... FHS at least if there was a good cause I'd understand, reduce bloody taxes, abolish uni fees,  stop the wars ,help single parents etc etc
But what's the cause for this??

Lozells riots just a few years back - blacks versus asians. Riots in the 1980's in Handsworth in which a few died - that was between the police and the black community.

Straight up, Birmingham has tinderbox areas. Hope this shit doesn't happen again.

hmm that's what i fear too, but it seems to be straight up looting atm. the gang fighting will come when the looters get bored imo, or if anyone gets into the looter's ways that aren't coppers. the city centre seems to be under control now after an initial surge of craziness and the bullring is heavily guarded, but buses are being smashed up and barely anyone can get out without walking home according to a friend.

    Stay safe mate.

After I came back from work today, I found that nearly all the shops were shut so I went home. Now, I'm starving and because I'm short and slim, I fear I'd be mistaken for a looter if I went out to buy something. I might wear a suit to go to the local Sainsbury's away from the thuggery.

No way would this have happened in bham city centre without planning and co-ordination, the blackberry rioters. Must be gang involvement in london and bham. If they get displaced from the city centre and move outwards, the worrying thing is it doesn't take much to start a riot. Tension rising, rumours going around (made worse by social media), people wanting to settle scores, ethnic tensions from the previous riots, gangs, thugs just wanting some fun - look around the streets any time of day or night its full with unemployed, criminalised 'youth'

Aston, Lozells, Handsworth will be the tinderbox areas - hope the West Midlands police are on top of this.

true, but if the gangs did co-ordinate this then they'd just be fighting each other, if not for the best looting spots like the bullring/the pallasades/corporation street. i don't hear reports from friends of much gang violence yet, and knowing what i know about the gangs of birmingham(specifically somalis/asians), it doesn't take very much for them to fight each other(ramadan truces have always been broken).

i'm not sure if it's explicitly gang co-ordinated, but there was co-ordination and gang violence will definitely follow if the rioters of lozells/aston go anywhere near each other.

I don't know much about somali gangs in brum. Its mostly Jamaican / Pakistani and some Sikh gangs I know about there.

Just seen some pictures on BBC news from bham city centre. Youths in hoodies smashing windows and looting. Wasn't a swarm of them from the pictures, didn't look as bad as London. But city centre is in lockdown now.

sikh gangs won't do too much unless they get in the way of the pakistani gangs. even then, the sikh/pakistani conflict in birmingham is predominantly hype.

and gang violence will definitely follow if the rioters of lozells/aston go anywhere near each other.

Thats what worries me. The riots in Lozells started when a rumour went round that a gang of Pakistani men had gang raped a black girl. It never happened. By the end of the weekend, an innocent black man coming home from the cinema had been stabbed to death and Lozells / Aston burned, mass stabbings and shootings, beatings, and ethnic tensions fucked up forever. This was in 2005.

Whatever is driving this one thing is true..........mobs and riots are a madness that go their own way, accelerate, all different things happen, all sorts of shit gets thrown in. Starts off with looting, transforms into worse.

i'm sort of annoyed i extended my holiday a week, as i'm now mind-numbingly curious as to how this spread to birmingham. the london riots make sense in a fucked up hood-nigga logic sort of way, but this doesn't at all.

well scratch that, it was obviously some other hood niggas taking advantage of the fact london happened as an excuse to say, 'why not our shithole of a city too?'

    Copy-cat pure and simple.

That blog has a rumour that Perry Barr shopping centre has some trouble. I hope its only a rumour, because Perry Barr is exactly where the Lozells riot started.

From the guardian blog about the looting and burning in Clapham tonight:

    Quote
Onlookers and locals identified many of those present as "blues, yellows and reds", members of local gangs ho they said had called a truce for the evening.
