  • Birth of Krishna
     OP - August 21, 2011, 09:27 PM

Up to 72,000 people were expected to attend what organisers said was the largest Hindu festival outside India

The two-day Janmashtami Festival celebrates the birthday of Krishna, and was held at Bhaktivedanta Manor, Watford.

The site was donated to the Hare Krishna movement by former Beatle George Harrison in 1973.

Cows and bulls, considered sacred in the Hindu faith, have been painted in memory of Krishna, who Hindus believe was the guardian of the animals.

Srutidharma Das, president of the manor, said celebrations of faith were important.

"There is an imbalance in society," he said.

"These festivals reiterate people's values and make them into better people.

"We can integrate but still have our culture.

"We have to follow the laws of the land, but following our culture will enhance the fact that we are part of Britain."

The cow or the girl? ;-)

    Little Fly, Thy summer's play
My thoughtless hand has brushed away.

I too dance and drink, and sing,
Till some blind hand shall brush my wing.

Therefore I am a happy fly,
If I live or if I die.

Its only the last few years that I've appreciated how great George was, I think he balanced the Beatles, he was the true balance between John and Paul, and his talent was so under rated. He wrote some great songs.

I reckon he had a calming influence on them, especially from midway until the end. He was so peaceful and relaxed, he kept them together. His presence cooled down their temperaments and enabled them to spark, and his influence was massive musically too. Alot of the innovations were because of him, with the sitar and everything like that.

I think Ringo made the cups of tea or something.

It just occurred to me that krishna could very well have been
    the first smurf!

Krishna is cool in my book, as is George Harrison.  After all, if
it hadn't been for George's wife, Eric Clapton would have never
written "Layla", like the greatest legend of all rock love songs! LOL

I don't think that Krishna was born of a virgin. There is no such story.

Not only was Krishna born of a virgin he managed to completely avoid the vagina by emerging through a slit in his mothers side. Now that's special.
