Medtation is best in a group I have found. If you sit up with back straight, you won't fall asleep. You need to blank your mind. This is difficult at first because your mind wanders. So in between times, try concentrating on something with little detail e.g a speck on a blank wall. Think of nothing but that speck. If your mind wanders, clear it and start again. Eventually you'll discover that your meditation thoughts and images didn't originate from your mind.

For instance, in one group I saw a dog im my mind pacing up and down. I asked a man in the group if he had a dog that did this. Yes, he said that was his dog's trait. But he said, what breed of dog is it? I replied in one direction it was an alsatian, the other a collie. Amazing, he said, my dog is a cross between an alsatian and a collie
