Meh, I think family back at Bangladesh are more into that rather than those here in the UK.

    ... You what?

Basically translated to "moon night" the sighting of the new moon which Eid ul-Fitr is related to. It's like a mini celebration before Eid in my opinion.

I've always liked chaand raat, for the sole reason of a lot of girls being out getting mehandi and bangles. Its the only women's event in Pakistan in a way.

Last night, lots of bangle stalls just outside my flat. I went out like 4 times to the store just to check out the girls who were buying them.  cool2

Someday when I'm out of Pakistan, I'll post some photos of the place I'm living in right now. You'll see the contrast between that and the above photo which looks like its from a slum.

shilakijawani: I know Pakistani's take offense of Indian culture. But actually I think Indian culture is far more superior as they are much more humble and supportive people. Pakistani's usually have too much pride of themselves, and they are good for nothing.

Just wanted to show you that in Pakistan, it will be only filled with men. And the ones that are women, 60% would be burqafied. Also the westernised stalls are like .01% of Pakistan.. Doesn't reflect the reality.
On the other hand, the Indian picture, that shows that women are part of the society, and yes big majority of India live like that in the thing you call slums and they are proud of their culture. Their polititions and leaders don't mind going to work in dhooti.

Come to islamabad or lahore and tell me how many burkaified women you find. Its at least a 7:3 ratio of those who don't cover their hair to those who do.

That's a load. People are jerks, not specific ones. I'm indian and I have one paki brother in law. In my whole family the paki is the only decent guy. He's kind, caring, supportive and extremely brotherly.

One thing with pakis is they are more respectful of their sisters than indians. I've had indian cousins, friends, etc perv and try it while saying sister to me, but never a paki. Once a paki guy makes you a sis they respect you like one. I'm astute and have experienced even uncles perving at me, but know that even if I walked in naked to my bro in law he would behave like a brother and prob. puke despite my super hotness  Afro

Muddy- women are integrated in india? Bull!

Female literacy rate is lower than male

In most Indian families , women do not own any property in their own names, and do not get a share of parental property. Due to weak enforcement of laws protecting them, women continue to have little access to land and property. In fact, some of the laws discriminate against women, when it comes to land and property rights

Many women in india work but 'over half crimes reported against women in 1990 related to harrassment and molestation in the workplace'

A 1997 report claimed that at least 5,000 women die each year because of dowry deaths, and at least a dozen die each day in 'kitchen fires' thought to be intentional.

According to UNICEF’s “State of the World’s Children-2009” report, 47% of India's women aged 20–24 were married before the legal age of 18, with 56% in rural areas. The report also showed that 40% of the world's child marriages occur in India.

India has a highly masculine sex ratio- attributed to female infanticides and sex-selective abortions.

Women aren't even properly integrated in the west! The struggle continues.

and I have one paki brother in law.

How does that work? I thought you were only dating someone, are you married to the guy you've been saying was your boyfriend?

Nah, that's not something specific to pakistanis. Rather that guy is probably gay if he'd puke on seeing you naked and you're not his real sister..

Pakistanis tend to be more disrespectful to their sisters than others even though its supposed to be otherwise. E.g they put a lot more restrictions on them, don't let them go out, don't let them have boyfriends, think they 'own' their sisters.  I don't think that's showing them much respect.

My brother in law is my sister's husband

Maybe my bro in law's just awesome. He's not gay- is my brother gay for not wanting to have sex with me? That's stupid. My bro in law has been my bro for 11 years since I was 18. He looks at me as a sister, thinks of me as a sister. He's never told me or his biological sisters what to do.

Sadly, he wants nothing to do with me cos I'm with a white guy- funny that my family's more upset about that than me leaving islam!

That's interesting.  I guess some taboos are more taboo than others.  Another example is:  Muddy unashamedly told his parents about his apostasy, but is not ready to tell them about his homosexuality.
I guess this varies from family to family.  In some families honour/izzat is paramount, in others, religiosity, etc etc.

I think my family are ignoring the islam thing, they always have. I've questioned islam for years and they just roll their eyes like, oh here we go again. They think it's me being silly or childish. They fail to see how I'm with this guy BECAUSE i don't believe in islam and not the other wat around

I left islam because I don't believe in it. Because i left it I engage in things without guilt at a moderate level such as drinking and eating normal meat, and I have a white bf because I like him and I'm not racist.

Muslims stupidly twist this and say we left islam TO DO these things, ignoring the reality that we DO these things because we left islam

Its because your parents are Indian and not Pakistani. They are way automatically more tolerant towards religion, but Indian parents regardless of religion would prefer their kids marry Indians. On the other hand Pakistani would prefer their kids marrying someone lighter skin tone than them.

And, yes, I do agree your brother inlaw might be gay although might never experienced gay sex.

So drinking is the WORST thing in their opinion and everything else pails in comparison including:

    Sleeping with prostitutes
    Being gay
    Paedophilia
    Raping a man/woman
Killing someone for no good reason
