as someone from pakistan i can attest to the fact that women are indeed oppressed there. and i would have to say in rural areas discrimination and violence against women is uncanny. i couldn't even imagine that kind of violence in my wildest nightmare. there may be some remote villages in other countries that could compete with pakistan but overall, pakistan takes the cake.
that really doesn't make dawahfilms a moron. to me it is good that he pointed out that there were strong women in the muslim world as well. pakistan has had a female prime minister twice, female foreign ministers and many women in high office (that being said i was not too fond of those politicians). i know many pakistani women who are strong and independent and much less oppressed than women in other countries.
as a young pakistani man, even as i was a 'muslim' (at least i called myself a muslim, i might have had doubts back then, but still), the people i respected most and the ones who influenced me the most were my female teachers. my mom, sisters and cousins are pakistani muslim women. as it stands, no one can convince me that they are oppressed. in fact, they have much stronger personalities than many women from other cultures and ethnicities.
