Been hearing a lot about the show, one even recommends it to me for being a marketing student.

It's a hard show to get into, but if youre into it, it's amazing. Me and my friend heard about it and watched the first four episodes and thought, "When is something going to happen?" but instead of a three part action oriented TV series like a lot of shows are it moves a lot more slowly and is a lot more about painting a portrait about a person than action. I'm into it, but I'll be the first to admit it isn't for everyone. Btw if your a marketing student you should see this movie

Also Mad Men is very American oriented in the fact that the history of the 50's and 60's play a large part in the story.

I'm really excited for Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain. I'm a huge fan of No Reservations and can't wait to see what he does with the extra freedom he has with CNN.

Yeah, I agree. Though it's interesting that you'd see Michael Fassbender as Spartacus. I would never have thought of that, and it's such a strange combination but it could actually work  Cheesy

But I take back what I said about Liam McIntyre. He was fantastic in the finale. Formidable and utterly mesmerising. Totally convincing as a badass gladiator-turned-rebellion-leader. He's done Andy and the fans proud.

I expected the finale to be good, but I didn't expect it to be THAT good. It was like watching a battle scene straight from Gladiator. Massive props to the fight choreographer. And give the director a movie to direct NOW.

Decided to give Vikings a try. I was still jonesing for some bloody combat after the finale of Spartacus, so thought I'd give it a watch. Heard mixed reviews about it, wasn't sure what to expect. I am so pleasantly surprised. I'm on episode 5 now. I was so hooked I watched the first 4 back to back last night. I love it already.

It's actually a refreshing change of pace from Game of Thrones and Spartacus. It just feels more authentic and grounded in reality. And it is to a large extent, since it's based on real Viking history and culture. The setting, the places, the names, the social structures, the beliefs and superstitions, the costumes and cultural trappings, all based on real history. The combat is messy, bloody business too, not over-the-top swashbuckling or superhuman feats of heroism. No obligatory gratuitous sex scene every five mins, which is actually a kinda nice palette cleanser. The script is actually refreshingly simple too. They talk like normal people would. That might not sound like a selling point, but it lends itself nicely to the overall feeling of immersion. And not a single horned helmet in sight. It really swept me away into another time and place.

Despite the Vikings in it being essentially just raiding thugs, I can't help but root for them. It's a good story and I already kinda care about the characters. I'm, strangely, willing to accept they have their reasons for their actions. They have been fleshed out really well. The main character, Ragnar Lodbrok, is based loosely on an actual historical figure, or rather a figure of Viking legend and the sagas; part real person, part mythical embellishment. The guy who plays him is brilliant, Travis Fimmel. His facial expressions and sly grin give him so much character and its hard not to love him a little bit. His wife, the sheildmaiden Lagetha, is great too. I love that there are so many strong women in film and TV now. Great characters all round actually. Classy cast, classy acting, classy production.

It's not a documentary, though. It's a period drama with flashes of creative license. So if you don't go in expecting total historical accuracy, you're likely to enjoy it more. Don't let the fact that it's on the History Channel put you off either. I know the HC is really shit these days, but this show is a real gem in my not so humble opinion. I am glad to hear it's been picked up for a second season, which means I can really get into it and not feel like it's gonna end abruptly anytime soon, like so many other good series that didn't quite make the cut.

    Awesome theme song:

Just watched the one on Myanmar. Amazing coverage.

Yeah, brilliant episode. The train and Ferris wheel scenes were brilliant! The cameras they're using seem to be a lot better than the ones they used on No Reservations, one minor gripe is how many slow motion shots they used. It got really annoying after a while.

I'm reading Kitchen Confidential at the moment. Brilliant book, the guy is an amazing writer.

Yep, that's how I got hooked. The Mozambique, Haiti and Cambodia shows are brilliant.

Just seen the first couple of episodes of Hannibal. Good stuff so far.

Fans of Dexter might like it. Anyone with a fascination for criminal profiling and psychology might be interested. ADHD weirdos wont like the slow and measured pace. Those with a weak stomach wont either.

Fans of the Thomas Harris novels will probably love it if they are anything like me or they are hankering for more from that universe and those characters. It's obviously not as strong writing as the novels, though they have done well to capture the relationship between Hannibal Lector and Will Graham in its infancy. The dynamic between them is already starting to take shape and I hope the show runs with that and sees it through to its potential.

Mads Mikkelsen's Dr. Lector is a very different interpretation from Anthony Hopkins' iconic portrayal, but different in good ways. A refreshing surprise. I like him already. Great casting.

Wow, how have you not seen it yet? You're in for a proper treat. It's fucking amazing. I dunno how loyal it is to the original Israeli series, but massive props to whoever originally wrote it and whoever is doing the screen writing now. So damn classy and so refreshing. Truly worthy of his Emmy. Great to see British talent getting lead roles in these big American shows and great to see their performances being well received.

What a cast all round. Claire Danes, also well deserving of her Emmy. I'm always drawn to characters that are a bit crazy. Hard to believe that with so much else going on in the main storyline, they have time for a really delicate and responsible (and sometimes harrowing) insight into bipolar disorder. It's almost enough for a full series itself, but doesn't distract from the main story arc at all and is an essential component of the lead character.

I've got a massive soft spot for Mandy Patinkin too. These old school stage actors have real polished presence and dignity when on screen. They really bring an A game to whatever script they get their hands on.

And then Morena Baccarin. Ooh lala. She has such dazzling, distracting beauty that I sometimes zone out and don't take notice of her dialogue. There have been times where I have had to watch her scenes twice just to fully appreciate them or to catch what she'd said. And it's totally worth it, because she's one of the most brilliant actresses I've seen and I didn't even know she existed until this show. She's been hiding in sci-fi shows from what I can gather.
