Ex-Muslim Women in the media
OP
- September 08, 2011, 01:12 AM
Or women who come from an Islamic background... or raised by at least one Muslim parent but don't appear to be Muslim anymore.
Particularly interested in those in the arts. Just want to know who else is prominent in this field, but it doesn't have to be limited to entertainment.
I'll start with Bat For Lashes.
Fine lady.

I remember seeing her years ago. I took my then girlfriend to see her for her bday anniversary. Had no idea she had an Islamic background!

Well I'm not quite sure, but her father is Pakistani, so.... but she was clearly raised more by her English (mother)'s side - she says so.
That's cool.. I would love to see her live. And all these other great British acts that never come here.
Rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in.

Where’s ‘here’? I saw her in Leeds. I think it was Leeds. Was it Leeds? May have been Sheffield. Think it was Leeds though…

Even though she's never explicitly said she's not Muslim, she's been falling out of clubs for years and now she's married to Charlie Brooker who's an atheist.

I love Natasha Khan. Every time I went to parties in Brighton I hoped she'd be there. (Ditto PJ Harvey in Dorset.)
And I love this song.
