     OP - September 25, 2011, 12:31 AM

I'm looking to expand my minimalist music collection. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance. Smiley

Looking for stuff along those lines:

Those are all very lovely… but sound like Contemporary Classical. As opposed to Minimalist, which I would peg as something like this:

That's more avant-garde. Contemporary classical and minimalist music are intertwined. You could say the latter is a subsect of the former. Philip Glass is one of the pioneers of minimalist music. Michael Nyman is also one of the head figures in minimalist music of Europe.

Either way, I provided examples to make sure people know what I'm looking for. Smiley

    Love it.

Love also philip glass - metamorphosis

    Little Fly, Thy summer's play

I too dance and drink, and sing,
Till some blind hand shall brush my wing.

Therefore I am a happy fly,
If I live or if I die.

Not sure how modern classical/minimalistic this is, but it's awesome anyway:

Oh, I should say it's Chopin's nocturne in C sharp minor.

    Probably not what you're after...

    Kraftwerk - The Man Machine

And another vote for Chopin's Nocturne's.

How did you even think to post Kraftwerk?

     Huh?

You can never go wrong with Chopin. One of the best piano composers. Afro

     Huh?

They're not minimalist in the reductive, nothing-much-there sense, but their music is so stripped down there's not a superfluous note.

Minimalist music is a specific style of classical music, not just "reductive, nothing-much-there" music. That's why I posted the songs: there's a lot in common between them. Kraftwerk obviously has nothing to do with minimal music.

Roberto Cacciapaglia today. His stuff is quite interesting.  It can get very epic. I love the build ups. It's really nice to listen to. MORE TO COME.

Whitetree is really interesting. I see you like Einaudi--this is a collaboration between Ludovico Einaudi, Robert and Ronald Lippok.

Whitetree--Koepenik. I don't really need to describe why this one is amazing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_zcJeDF2CI

Whitetree--Other nature. This one transforms in the most intriguing way.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcogmu__-Io

Whitetree---Mercury Sands. This is just unreal. There is this undescribable essence captured here, this essence, as though waiting for something. That's what i love about a lot of contemporary classical music and minimalist music. At times they capture a mood, a feeling, and let you feel it, while letting that feeling grow and transform.

I've always thought James Blake to be quite minimalist:

This piece is full of entirely too much emotion. It's almost too good.

This piece is very simple and minimal, but still there's so much in it, a lingering feeling.
