  • Who are your favourite personalities?
     OP - December 10, 2011, 04:08 PM

    Both fiction and non-fictional.

    Im going to start mine:

    1. Don Vito Corleone- i admire his leadership skills, his business acumen, his humbleness and ability to make a wise decision, for me he is an exemplary figure of a true leader despite being the boss of the bosses of american sicilian mafia.

    2. Jack Nicholson- i love everything about this man,i can even watch a crappy movie if he is in it.

3.Muhammad Ali-his confidence,i have never seen an icon who is so confident and boastful like this man and remains a winner, his smartass remark and a good sense of humour.

4.Gregory House- how he sees every medical case as a puzzle, just like a true scientist he is more interested in a case that no one cant solve and that thrills him, though he is someone that you may hate in real life but you may respect for him for his ability to make a rapid and accurate diagnosis and can decipher people's motives and histories from aspect of their personalities and appearance.also i love how he bashes and ridicule religion

    5. Angelina Jolie-Im enamored with her wild child persona and how she openly discuss her personal life including bisexuality, her interest in BDSM,drugs expression and her depression yet still a strong woman, she is full of warmth and can be hard and agressive in the roles she play. One of the few actors that can take far beyond their capability and very committed to their work, one of the best female actress i have seen. I also admire her humanitarian works.

Its all i can think of for now, i may bring up some later on.. I know some of you have many so whats yours?.

Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin - Even though I am not a commie, I admire his legacy and visionary genius. And pretty much he saved humanity from nuclear destruction.

Carl Edward Sagan - For his amazing and mind blowing work in brining cosmology to the laymen and having an extraordinary abilities to explain complex ideas in very simple terms. A great teacher.

Alexander the Great - pretty much self explanatory, he was pure badass.

Nicolas Cage - a great method actor. Leaving Las Vagas is one of his best acted movies in my opinion sublime.

    I have more, though.

    One of my favorites too.

Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin - Even though I am not a commie, I admire his legacy and visionary genius. And pretty much he saved humanity from nuclear destruction.

He was a drunken buffoon who ruined his country and shattered any hope of post-Soviet reforms leading to a democratic and open society. He dismantled the social/economic protections of the old USSR while keeping the authoritarian state, even shelling his parliamentary opponents, and simultaneously opened Russia up to rampant corruption and kleptocracy. His legacy was to ruin Russia.

I like how Jay Z protrayed a drug lord persona who once rises up then fall American Gangster's album. A similar role that Denzel Washington played in "American Gangstar" movie as Frank Lucas.

I used to admire Richard Feynman too, but I'm not sure any more, think he was a bit arrogant honestly.

Actually it was his constitutional reforms, and privatization, which years later beard fruit which Putin came into power. There is alot of negativity directed towards him that kind of happens with any leader who is ready to upset the status quo.

In 1995 Boris Yeltsin, came within three minutes of initiating a full nuclear strike on the United States because of a Norwegian scientific rocket Russians could not identify. All of his advises and top military leaders were telling him the Americans had done a nuclear strike on the USA, and we have to strike back immediately, thank full he didn't take (even knowing) that Russia would be destroyed and he only had 3 minutes to lunch all of the nuclear aresnel of Russia. He did not listen to anyone, even though his Generals were furious with him screening and shouting at him to give the order. Even counting the time down to him. Imagine that, that takes some serious balls.

Actually it was his constitutional reforms,

Which centralized power in the hands of the Presidency and ensured that Russia would remain an authoritarian state in the post-Soviet era for decades to come. At least in the post-Stalin era most dissidents just got locked up, now they get murdered.

    and privatization,

Which made a few Russians (mostly those with government, intelligence service, and mafiya connections) really rich and fucked everyone else. Rampant homelessness, unemployment, drug addiction, and violent crime, along with a dramatic increase in the incarceration rate. Will someone please tell me how a country becomes "freer" when it locks up more of its citizens?

By that logic, Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov is the greatest Russian to have ever lived.

Why would the US launch a nuclear attack on Russia in 19 ninety fucking 5? Yeah we won the Cold War and were supportive of Yeltsin's regime, but let's just lob some nukes at Russia for fun? So basically Yeltsin is a great leader cause he wasn't a total idiot and didn't blow up the fuckin world? Setting the bar pretty low there, Tut.

It was not only that, not only because of the nuke thing. I like his policies, yes some would say they only benefited the rich, but then again it wasn't like the poor were rich anyway. Plus he would get mad drunk and was almost a capitalist.

Yeah, but they had jobs, and free housing, and weren't dying from drug addiction, or locked up in jail, or worried about being mugged by junkies or killed by skinheads.

I still like him, it's just I've put him down from the pedestal I had him up on. It's fine that he hated authority, but he did work for the government in developing the atom bomb didn't he? the 'manhatten project' I think it was called...

Also from other videos of him (don't ask me to find them i can't remember which exactly) the impression I got was a bit narcissistic and arrogant.
