I can believe that it is the fastest growing religion. What I can't believe is that it's rapid growth is due to conversions.

Muslims can have multiple wives, and they seem to think that breeding is a competition. We do know that overall, Muslims have a fertility rate than non Muslims. There is no reason to suspect that this fact is insufficient to account for the growth of Islam.

According to the Population reference Bureau "women in Muslim-majority countries still clearly have more children per woman than in non-Muslim countries."

They also say that "there is an especially strong relationship between educational attainment for women and fertility rates: Women with higher education are more likely to delay childbirth and have fewer children"

So when Muslims are boasting that Islam grows quickly, they are really boasting that Muslim women are poorly educated.

Pointing out instances of people converting to Islam is completely pointless unless you also have the data on apostates. Which as we all know, is simply impossible to determine.

I agree, Islam is the fastest growing religion, but mainly due to Muslims having lots of kids. A lot of Muslim families I've seen are baby making machines!

I've been talking to a guy whose a Muslim in name only ( That's what he says ). He Egyptian, but spent a lot of time living in the West which is why he is a bit westernized and doesn't get along with his countrymen. He also has a low opinion of them too. Unfortunately he's been drafted in Egypt's military for one year. He doesn't want to serve in the military but has no choice. He believes in God and recognizes other religions.

This often repeated claim is actually a very good insight into how the Muslims saying it view their religion as a kind of political imperialism more than a benign spiritual path.

if you're generous you put it down to an inferiority complex caused by various factors - some might say its born of a very ridiculous sense of Islam's importance and manifest destiny as the dominator of mankind, hence the volatile nature of the claim - a mixture of extreme superiority complex which leads to a sense of inferiority and cognitive dissonance caused by the difference between the big claims made for Islam, and the reality.

There is also no difference between the claims they make, and the claims made about Islam by various Jihadwatch types. Which means, Muslims who employ this triumphalist kind of rhetoric not only feed Jihadwatch-ism, they perpetuate the view that Islam is not reconcilable with other non Muslim societies and cultures, because it asserts itself as locked into a supremacist competition seeking to replace and dominate them.

In my country, people are encouraged to convert into Islam, yet converting OUT of Islam is impossible if not illegal entirely.

If it is really true that Islam is the fastest growing religion, I doubt it has something to do with it's truthness or whatever.
