    I took this photo this morning. Its a hedge that has been spalttered with water by passing cars (all night presumably) and ice has formed around it. Pretty awesome!

    One of the few things I've done in life that I'm proud of, here is the muskoka bench I designed and built in my grade 12 woodshop (technically technological design) class. I ended up getting a 95 on the project and my teacher ended up jizzing so much over the final product that he gave me perfect marks on the building aspect and made me take the chair (with some help) to the school's office to show it off.

    Because I'm not really good at designing new things (this one was modified from a muskoka chair that's supposed to be connected to a table), and I like computer science a lot more. I'm also better at computer science Smiley

    @os, nope, it's cedar. The stain I used gave it that colour.

    Cedar was chosen because it's good at standing up to the elements while also being decently strong and not too heavy. It also smells REALLY good when you're cutting it up in the workshop, and I basically spent a couple classes making everyone sniff my wood (which they enjoyed). Tongue

    Lebanon? Port Orford? Pencil? Spanish? Eastern white? Australian?  Cheesy

    Western red cedar is cedar too, and ranges in colour from your unstained version to a dark chocolate, depending on the tree. The grain is the same as what your pix show, which is why I thought of it.

    cedar is great.  I LOVE the smell of burning cedar.  (no worries seth, i don't wanna torch your bench, it is beautiful.)

    LOL Os  you know something, I have NO idea which type of cedar I like more.  had no idea you were such a cedar scholar.  I am not picky, I just love that generic smell of cedar.  probably the "less piney" smelling kinds.
