Not to hijack the thread, but the expensive stuff was the only way to go! I'm actually getting a little nostalgic thinking about it. Fresh dates, Arabic coffee, crisp white thobe, red and white shimagh...then someone passes around the bukhoor so you can let the smell get into your clothes...ahhh. Anyway, crappy photos...

LOL, it's true, esp with the bukhoor
I remember dropping a disc of it on the carpet one time and I literally picked up every last morsel with a tweezers

I'd like to join the ranks of crappy photographers. I've been interested in photography for awhile and I finally got myself a (relatively) cheap dslr, so I'm giving it a shot. I've been learning a bit about the various settings and I think I know enough that I can play around with them, but for now I'm using auto while I get used to handling the camera, plus I'm more focused on the composition aspect of it.
So here goes. I'll start with some close-ups I took around my yard:
My rosemary plant
My blueberry plants
My azalea
A lady bug on the pesky holly that I can't seem to get rid of

I enjoy an absolutely gorgeous drive to work every morning, so here are some shots from along the way.
I'll start with a couple of my favorite views on the road
From a creek that I pass by
And one of many lovely farm houses I pass by
Finally, once I get to work, this is the view from my office

These are all from the past week or so
But don't worry, the sun comes and goes here this time of year. Today is dreary and rainy.

I'm not done torturing your eyeballs!
Here are a couple interesting looking buildings near where I live
And finally, I LOVE trees. Oak trees grow all over around here, and in the winter their exposed branches are intricately beautiful. So here's a bunch of trees, plus one with a bonus snowy peak in the background!

It is very peaceful. I'm glad you guys like them
Any critique or tips on the photography are welcome too. I'm just getting started and I already have a list of at least four places I want to take my camera, so any ideas on improvement would be great.

that's more Pepe's area of expertise. my only photography advice is to shoot WAY more pictures than you think you should. that way, you are bound to come out with at least one or two amazing shots....esp if you have 150 to chose from. it drives my kids bonkers, but it works.

Thats a lovely commute you have there Luthiel.
Serioualy, commuting to work everyday using the London underground gets extremely boring and dull. The old interior, rusty trains, not to mention how overcrowded it gets during rush hour.
My ideal commute would be cycling to work through clear roads, green fields and trees, quiet wind and no extra noise...its one reason for why I want to move out of London.

I had to take a shot this morning, just because it's the first time I've been able to see the sunrise for ages. It has been raining and raining and raining here. One of the wettest starts to the year on record. So, a nice chirpy (not-effin-rainy) start to the day was rather a good thing.

@Luthiel: I'm in a bit of a long exposure b&w phase right now. All images shot at ISO 100 and at 24mm. First: 20s at f/11, second: 8s at f/11, third: 20s at f/16.

A mishmash from over six years, the latest less than a week ago.
The baby bird is a sentimental favorite. Apparently fell out of the nest and onto the road.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.
