No rules, zoomi. Anything loosley resembling punk. Music seems to me to be always too diverse for strict genre barriers. And there are so many delicious fusions too.

Technically speaking I can pull out the many Emo Bands that I used to listened to. Some of which I notice have achieved huge mainstream success worldwide recently. Because the difference between emo and punk is pretty much subject matter, vocals and tempo.

Not exactly the same but strongly related. Post-Hardcore bands I used to repeatedly listen to Thrice and AlexisOnFire, theyre musically very strong. If you like them you should give a listen to The Offspring(album).

Note how my posts are on point with your theme and nothing personal? It seems to me that you're the one who seems to be hung up on whatever, how many times have I even replied to yours posts lol? Yessssssssssss. I remember when that album came out how much I was into it.. thought it was the best thing ever and a solid album. I still like it, but not as impassioned lol as I was as a teen. But also, I've always liked Catch 22 more and they came first.
