God, I wish the presidential elections didn't have this nasty habit of morphing into one large game of "who can one-up my meme" by the people of this country. What a waste of artistic talents and bright ideas, only spent to deliver a punchline to entertain themselves and the other willfully ignorant and passive, since it really isn't a laughing matter. It'd be lovely if the population of citizens who are sick and tired of being stepped on and over banded together and questioned the absurdity of having to vote between identical candidates who spend almost a billion dollars in campaign expenditures only to squawk over each other without actually saying anything of real importance. I hope that one day people won't be glued to their television sets and computer monitors dissecting every canned phrase these jokers spout off at each other and instead angrily demanding that their president and presidential candidates be honest about their intentions in this position and enforce their termination should s/he not be able to hold fast to those intentions.

Major election years always make me wish that a third party vote actually counted for something. I'm so sick of watching this shitshow on every media outlet, it's not even funny.

No (his dad was not Muslim btw, his dad was an atheist, his grandfather was a Muslim). If Obama was a Christian White American he would have 75% of the vote already, because his ideas are popular and Romney is one of the worst candidates in electoral history (as are most Republicans atm).

    Quote
As a Muslim American, I often think I should include this disclaimer before writing about President Obama: "The President of the United States is not a Muslim -- secret, or otherwise. He has not shown up at any of our meetings; nor have we received any special consideration from State or Federal governments for being Muslims in America."

Oh, wait, I would need to clarify the above; we have received some special consideration for being Muslim in America if you count being spied upon by the NYPD, being profiled at U.S. airports with consistent but "random" super security checks, or being unfairly denied building permits and zoning permission when attempting to build or expand our places of worship (see the list of articles here). And we must include certain United States members of Congress, particularly Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, and N.Y. Rep. Peter King who have deemed Muslim Americans as worthy of special attention by vilifying the entire faith group in America as disloyal, suspicious traitors to our country.

Muslim Americans would appreciate our president's support in standing with us against the religious and racist slurs, inequities and outright violations of our civil rights, but so far, we're just not feeling it.

I attended a dinner last weekend hosted by the Muslim Advocates in Arlington, Va., where Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison spoke after receiving an award of recognition from this dynamic organization. He reminded the audience that it's not the president's job to inspire us, or to defend our civil rights -- instead, it's our responsibility as U.S. citizens to stand for ourselves to .......

I love how a clear victory in the first debate gave Romney a huge swing yet a victory in the second and a bigger victory in the third debate for Obama didn't do that much. As one analyst pointed out: ''voters were looking for any reason to ditch Obama''-why? ''His race''.

All this long turanchi (unintelligible critical statements and arguments) aside,From what i can gather and understand is that both Obama and Romney share the same foreign policy though the difference is Romney wants to cut spending on healthcare insurance and other social benefits just to increase military expenditure then cut taxes for the rich, not to mention the women reproductive rights that the republicans wants to curb and also influence right wing/conservatives values into the state. So what am i clearly missing here that so many people are being critical of both the candidates? Do they have any alternative choice on this than complain and remain inactive on that?

Not much of a choice. Because of electoral laws and even the rules for the debates parties other than the two have a hard time competin. The next closest parties the Libertarian Party and the Green Party have something like 5% and 3% of the vote and are constantly facing legal challenges from the two parties. Usually a third party rises up and then gets coopted by one or both of the main parties.

The Tea Party for instance was originally a libertarianesk party lacking the racism part but then Republicans flooded it with money and Fox News coopted it to be the angry white guy movement.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

What annoys me about Romney's take on foreign policy is that he's making a big noise abut the US taking a more active leadership role in the Middle East. You know what that always means when Republicans say it. Roll Eyes

The Republicans have made a huge deal out of this incident in Libya, but only 4 Americans were killed and Libya now has a democracy. Now compare that to the debackle in Afghanistan and Iraq started by the Republicans.......

Obviously it would be difficult for Obama to point this out without belittling the deaths of those diplomats, but nevertheless it is pretty insignificant compared to how many Americans died in the wars started by Bush. It is a mere footnote in history, nothing more.

    The third debate wasn't even a debate, it was more like Obama enlightening Romney about foreign policy and agreeing with him, it was more like this;

Romney: Why aren't you doing this and that?
Obama: Well, because this and that blah blah blah
Romney: Oh i see, well here is what i should do if i become the president, blah blah blah
Obama: Well, we are already doing that!
    Romney: Oh Ok, I see.

Although i cant help but laugh when Obama zings him with this statement "And the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back. Because the Cold War has been over for 20 years." Grin

So according to a poll reported on the BBC, Obama is favoured by most countries globally.

The only country that would elect Romney, according to this poll?

    Pakistan
