, and frankly I'm wondering why he was even on it in the first place since he doesn't seem to be in favour of equal opportunity.
However, he is still the official head psychiatrist for the state of Victoria, which is a bit of a worry given his somewhat bizarre (IMO) views.
I don't know much about the situation, but if Australia is anything like the UK in this regard there are two reasons:
A) When it comes to equality comissions, issues of race, religion and ethnicity/culture are taken seriously, sexual and sexuality discrimination issues are not (or not nearly as much).
B) Any self-appointed 'community leader' of a minority group who says one or two agreeable things is instantly thought of by an out-of-touch government to be speaking for that minority community, and to be a good role model who needs to be elevated, that's why there have been many examples of terrorism supporters and Islamists working for the government as advisers on Muslim affairs in the UK and the US. The governments are so out-of-touch and lack so much common sense (as well as being condescendingly racist) to assume that someone from a minority group who says something like 'Islam means peace' instantly becomes a worthy ally. I know this guy is not a muslim, but I'm guessing that's the situation here.
