It's ludicrous to suggest Muslim women will convert to the interpretation of Islam that would permit rape. Islam is a great religion - I enjoyed practicing it and found solace in it: my family and friends still experience the same joys. They aren't being mislead - they choose to follow an interpretation which is completely in-line with modernity. Islam, like any religion, is what you make it - if they choose to omit the unsavoury aspects of the faith - by using mental gymnastics - then fair play to them; they're just having their cake and eating it too.

most female converts to isalm are still inherently good people as are most muslims themselves of course. no need to refer to them as dozy bints, in fact it's not a nice term in general

It's not that they are going to convert to that interpretation openly and vocally in Britain. It's that one day they might get married to a more conservative husband who demands sex when he wants and when they go to the Imam for advice, the imam if he follows a Conservative strand will say you are both given to each other. He can demand sex from you if he wants, but good news YOU can demand sex from him. And how what is she going to do? God wants her to give up sex. She might feel ashamed, she might not be able to divorce because no one will grant it, etc. She still is a good person.

247 my daughter is an adult, she is free to convert to anything she likes including Islam just as I am if I'm stupid enough to do so. You're also an adult (I think) free to practice any religion you like too so why have you come here pretending to be an ex-muslim when it's quite clear you're anything but?

In any case, I think the article was spot on in the analysis of convert women. In fact, it's an excellent summation of how I view incredibly liberal practitioners of Islam: the ones who openly drink, smoke weed, have premarital sex and an array of tattoos and engage in homosexual activity all while claiming that their religion is one of enlightenment. Their ignorance about what should be obvious teachings of Islam make me crinkle my face in frustration and disgust because they're advocating and promoting ideas of a largely oppressive religion (physically, mentally, morally and otherwise) without acknowledging its oppressive traits and passing along the "peace and love and scientifically up-to-date" version that most of us know isn't true. It kills me since that ignorance is willful, especially in the age of pocket computers and access to halls of books defining Islamic history, and that they're still looking for an argument they clearly aren't equipped with the right knowledge for.

Same goes for Muslim female converts insisting that Islam isn't this way or that way when they have the aforementioned methods of education as well as personal accounts of apostasy telling then that it isn't the field of warm fuzzies, solidarity and gender equality they thought it was.
