    Yes but there's still a lot of misogyny, I'm not exactly  a feminist, but theres a massive double standard, some of which I understand and others fucking stooopid. Like why should girls just expect to be sexually assaulted as a part of casual life just because they are a woman???

    Yes women aren't generally at risk of rape on a daily basis, but as a teenager I recall being heckled on a daily basis, strangers would casually grab me if I didn't want to speak to them and this is perceived as normal, I perceived this as normal I didn't think there was anything I could do about it. Prior to donning the hijab I had been chased down the road (literally) by a guy who said he watched me on a daily basis and knew I wasn't in a relationship when I tried to make excuses. which was actually quite a big factor towards making me want to put on the hijab. It seems over the top because you know that it would never be to that extent if the roles were reversed, but a lot of what is displayed in the video are common experiences for women. I don't think women and men are exactly the same and I'm not arguing for women to be able to jog topless, but I don't think many men realise what women have to put up with and the misogynistic bastards see no problem with what they do, and perhaps you have to be exaggerative to emphasise the point. How subtle is subtle if you are trying to emphasise a point that people brush aside?

    No it didn't anger me. I remarked upon its lack of subtlety which sensationalises the issue.

    But whose real life? Do not women view men as sexual objects and psychologically abuse them? Do not men have social/cultural expectations thrust upon them? Have not men been physically abused?

    Yes to all of the above.  A bit one sided that vid although she does have a point about certain men.  Unfortunately the type of man who needs to see it wouldn't watch it in a million years.

    Point taken. I agree the point needs to be made. We get it. Some men treat women like shit/objects. Just don't be so obvious in the video. The point can be made much better. But given the time constraints I understand why it wasn't.

    I just hate when such videos paint men as sexual predators. Women can be like that too.


    Rape is a depressing fact of life, but the video was less about that and more about wider sexual harassment/oppression.

    But I think it actually is more subtle than that. So subtle that it is indistinguishable from reality for the most part. Is there something problematic about art drawing attention to realities and experiences?

    I mean, come on, we have to sit through this story in about 1 in every 3 movies ever made. What is it about reversing the genders that makes one lonely 10 min video a step too far?

    Ishina, there is nothing wrong with the concept. It's the execution of it. It so obviously tries to bore the idea that men are bad and women are the oppressed - it is relentless. Objectively so. That may have been the 'artists' intention but it loses its effect on me.

    Most of the 'progressive world' governments have  actively tried to promote the idea/fact that women have been oppressed and that you SHOULDN'T treat women as sexual objects e.g. social policies; educational programmes and nationally enforced legislation. We get it. Still, you shouldn't portray men as unable to control their penis and as sexual vultures. This essentialisation of the male is abhorrent and counter productive and demeaning.

    You obviously saw things differently and see it as refelcting everyday reality around you - I don't see that at all. Not on the streets; the school that I work at or with friends/colleagues. If there is sex related banter or jesting it is two-sided.

    In the wider historical and contemporary context then yes, women are oppressed and sexually abused. DISGUSTING. Men perpetrate these crimes not because they are men and the penis makes them hate-mongers but because of a whole variety of other factors be they economic; cultural expectations; religion etc. Granted these structures of oppression were created and implemented by the ELITE men, not ALL men comply with the elitist view and are rapists; or want women to be relegated to second class positions. Men are too victims of structural violence against women. Apologies if I haven't made the point clearly enough. The fault is mine. There are far more intelligent people than I that can make this point.

    That is exactly the point. It DOES happen, even though you don't see it. That's the difference between a man's and woman's experience. This video is not trying to show you your own experience of the world. It is showing the real experience of many women. To say the depictions in the video are too "blatant", too "relentless", not "subtle" enough, etc, is to marginalize and disparage the REAL experiences of REAL women.

    It's sexist, unbalanced approach is insulting to men who have not committed any such offences. Or if they have it has been reciprocal e.g. 'Hey sexy' 'and hello to you too sweetheart'.

    Who is to say the sensationalist ion does not belittle the issue?

    Nobody is saying all women experience this, or all men do this. But it does happen, and it's a more common experience than you seem to realize. Part of the reason it's so common is because when it is shown happening to women in film or other media, nobody blinks an eye. "It sucks, but it happens." That attitude, that non-reaction, serves to normalize the behavior, which in turn creates what we call rape culture. But it doesn't look or feel so normal when the genders are reversed, does it? Or, as you call it, "blatant" and "relentless".

    Do you want the logical answer? One must view the cases on an individual basis; taking into account all variables and then arriving at a sound conclusion. Needless to say such a task is beyond the scope of this man.

    Jedi I think your missing the point, I don't think it is trying to brand all men as whatever, it is just highlighting the frequent experiences women have. The point of highlighting an issue, any issue never brushes past the issue to highlight the non issue points related to it. When they advertise for wateraid they don't exactly pan through the richest parts of Africa and say, hey well lots of them are fine look how luxuriously they are living, look how awesome their house is, look at this frickin car woooo, oh and maybe donate some money to wateraid. How do you suggest being subtle to highlight a problem?

    If it was so obvious and being taken care of women wouldn't have to experience it so much, would they? And to the, I don't see it in my school comment, you must have a segregated school, cos high school boys really haven't grasped the idea that misogyny is wrong and have no problem heckling and grabbing.
