I couldn't watch the whole thing, but I watched a bit and he seems like SUCH a sweetheart!!! He sounds so nice and gentle. I love people like that. I like him!!! Smiley I'll watch the rest later, hopefully.

And he's right, the environment is such a huge factor in the spiritual paths people choose.

This man makes me wish I was Muslim again. He's so nice.

Does anybody know of such nice, peaceful atheist/agnostic speakers? I've seen (and met) tons of Muslim ones, even Christian ones, but never atheist ones. All the ones I see are so harried and, like, flustered. Kinda frantic. :/

I heard about the ruckus with Yusuf Chambers and York.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

The Nice Atheist.  Mostly though "political" atheists tend to be reactionary because atheism is a reaction to theism.  There were/ are a ton of atheists who are non descript and go about serving humanity without being in front of a camera or need to proclaim themselves atheists etc.

That's true. Obviously you meet a lot of lovely deists, atheists, etc, but New Age atheists seem to be so resentful of everything. I know when I was a theist (or in the random bouts of theism I have nowadays), it really put me off of atheism when I tried to read Hitchens (RIP) and Dawkins and watched them online. They seemed kinda hollow to me. :/ Especially compared to this man and others like him...It just seemed like religion was/is so enriching and calming. :/

But I guess it's what you get out of your worldview, not which one you have...

The issue with Hitchens is that his youtube debates was 1/100 of his interactions with other people.  He debated and knew Dinesh D'Souza for over 20 years and dinned and drank with him multiple times. Yet when you watch the debates, he chides him, derides his faith, and betrates him for bad ideas.  Which are we supposed to believe? That he was mean and hostile and belligerent towards Dinesh who he drank and ate with for over 20 years?   He was extremely friendly with multiple religious figures and carried on extended conversations with them.  I'm trying to find it, but there was one Church of England priest with which he was intiminate friends with and took long road trips together while Christopher asked him various questions and enjoyed each other's company.  What you see on stage is a sliver of the warmth and generosity that was Chistopher Hitchens.  For sure, he didn't budge an inch when it came to relenting his ideas in the name of courteousy or being a courteous host, but should we really hold that against him?

He doesn't need condescending nobodies telling him the errors of his ways! He's a fine example for the youth to follow and great poster boy for community cohesion - much needed in the UK, with the rise of anti-Muslim sentiment across the country. Just because you left Islam, it doesn't give you the right to call Muslims silly names without any justification; you sound like a bitter person!

I'd love it if more Muslims applied this advice to dawah merchants - where it is verbal medicine that needs to be injected urgently.

Especially to the likes of Yusuf Chambers and  Abdur Raheem Green who are promoted by this organisation.

Refutation is interpreted as belligerence and 'meanness' by believers with sensitive skin.

Absolutely correct. If we're going to attack every Muslim for being a Muslim, then, frankly, you need to clean yourself from the bad side of Islam that is still in you.

Muslims,Christians, or Atheists wherever you go, there are always going to be nice or condescending ones amongst them.it has more to do with humans than the religion.

    That's true, thanks. yes

But STILL.. I mean, this Demba dude (and tbh I don't watch footsyballsy so I have no idea who he is) is so NICE. Reminds me of my old Islamic Studies teacher. She was a sweetheart. A saint, I swear. yes

But I guess neither of them are debating. I don't like watching religious debates vomit so maybe that's why I don't like Hitchens and Dawkins and stuff.

    Thank you Deusvult!!! Smiley

I think you're wrong (no offence). They don't come across as nice or caring, which admittedly isn't their job, but if someone like Dawkins is the posterboy for atheism nowadays, he really should try to not come across as so irksome and resentful.

It could just be cuz they're British (not Harris though), and I think British people tend to be more cutting overall, humour and everything. That's why it's fun to watch British comedies Cheesy

It just may happen his drink - like for many millions of Muslims -  isn't diluted, who the hell are you to suggest otherwise?  Islam, like all religions, isn't an exact science; it can be interpreted however the adherent wises to observe it. He isn't advocating any violent and/or oppressive implementation of Islam on others, just recounting his own - genuine and sincere - experience of his faith.

I'm not mad, I don't care either way - he's millionaire, adored by millions around the world and has found spiritual/mental peace, so I very much doubt he'll lose sleep over your two pennies' worth.
