    Or marginalised themselves. Mo hasn't. That's what makes him so great. He's even married into the wider gene pool.


    Just seen most of the opening ceremony over breakfast. Missed Russell Brand, thank gawd. There were too many heroes from Danny Boyle's youth. The Who? Once shit, still shit, forever shit.


    Edit: It wasn't Danny Boyle's work apparently. Point about The Who still stands.

    Closing ceremony got off to a shaky start I thought. I kept expecting Danny Boyle and Underworld to come running on waving "We didn't do this! Not our fault!" signs. Picked up in the middle though. Good to see the athletes all together, marathon medal ceremony, Lennon, Bowie, Queen, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush, Eric Idle, the torch handover.

    I don't see what the fuss is with Emeli Sande. I'm just not getting it. Some odd musical choices all round. George Michael promoting his new single. Jessie J murdering some hits with whichever cardboard cutout "R&B" star she had next to her. That mediocre indie-guy-strumming-a-guitar. That other mediocre indie-guy-crooning-some-vaguely-recognisable-song. Oasis without Noel was uncomfortable to watch too. I say that as a die hard fan.

    Tantalising taste of Rio, though.

    I'm enjoying the full streams on catch up. No cutting back and forth between different events. No cutting to the studio. You get to see the build up and more of what went on afterwards. I was just watching Jessica Ennis again. I think I am actually in love. I'm not even joking.

    I just read that Paul McCartney and other big artists only took a £1 fee for performing. They agreed to perform for free but had to take £1 to set up a contract.

    i think it's too right they performed for free - with so many volunteers doing a great job to make the games work
