    Quote
As megastar Rajesh Khanna breathed his last at his residence ‘Aashirwad' in Mumbai on Wednesday, grief and shock gripped the nation. The man who had millions of fans across the country was suffering for a long time and had been discharged from the hospital only on Tuesday noon .

Born on December 29, 1942 , as Jatin Khanna, the actor was raised by the relatives of his biological parents. He attended St. Sebestian's Goan High School along with his childhood friend Ravi Kapoor, who later adopted the screen name Jeetendra. Always high on confidence, Rajesh Khanna was the other name for style. He approached filmmakers in his own MG sports car during his struggling days.

Destined to be an actor, Rajesh Khanna had won several acting competitions at various levels before debuting in ‘Aakhri Khat' (1966). What else could a first timer wish for other than a director like Chetan Anand. However, his real break was Ravindra Dave's ‘Raaz' (1967). After a string of successful films such as ‘Baharon Ke Sapne', ‘Aradhana', ‘Ittefaq', and ‘Do Raaste', he marched into the hearts of millions of his fans, who credited Khanna with the title of superstar. Delivering 15 consecutive solo hits seemed easy every time his face appeared on the posters of a new film.

Dev Anand's era was gone and the nation had started digressing from Nehruvian philosophies. Khanna and his contemporary filmmakers realised the importance of providing an alternating reality to the spectators.

The storytellers emphasised on his flawed characters on the screen. It brought him closer to the general audiences who wanted to step ahead of Dev Anand and Guru Dutt's preaching.

He became the man who loved till death, and who was brave enough to admit his mistakes, unlike his predecessors who knew what emotion they want to evoke right from the first shot.

He didn't have Greek god's features, neither he fought with hundreds of goons, in fact he looked vulnerable, but it was this susceptibility which made him endear to his female fans.

Thanks to composers such as SD Burman, Salil Chaudhary and Laxmikant-Pyarelal, an actor became the epitome of romance. He bent his head to peep into the hearts of college going, cycle riding girls.

The second phase of his acting career began with ‘Anand'. Probably his most memorable role till date, ‘Anand' showed how one can play a character without wearing the superstar tag. ‘Dushman', ‘Amar Prem', ‘Bawarchi', ‘Daag', ‘Avishkar', ‘Namak Haram' and ‘Aap Ki Kasam', the cordial relation with the audiences went on till the social set up changed its course in 1975.

Rajesh Khanna's personal life was not as glittering as his screen avatars. His relationship with Anju Mahendru finished on a sad note, while his marriage with Dimple Kapadia was called off after 11 years in 1984. Later, Dimple only became his closest partner in life.

Khanna's stint with the small screen through serials like ‘Apne Paraye' and ‘Ittefaq' can be considered successful.

A try at politics made him an MP from Delhi .

Today, he might not be with his fans (ironically he did a TV commercial saying he will remain with his fans forever), but lovers of every age group will look up to his films for inspiration and hope.

^^Top tune (Yeh Reshmi Zulfein from the movie Do Raaste). Beautifully sung by Mohammed Rafi (legend). I know it is all subjective but quite surprised no one has posted what imo is one of the best songs featuring rajesh kanna (sung by Kishore Kumar).

He married Dimple Kapadia, 15 years younger and according to http://entertainment.oneindia.in/bollywood/news/2012/10-lesser-known-facts-dimple-rajesh-khanna-marriage-097567.html

I am my own worst enemy and best friend, itsa bit of a squeeze in a three-quarter bed, tho. Unhinged!? If I was a dog I would be having kittens, that is unhinged. Footloose n fancy free, forced to fit, fated to fly. One or 2 words, 3 and 3/thirds, looking comely but lonely, till I made them homely.D

boy  all of them are great lyrics. I think in these Indian movies ACTORS get credit for those songs which is nonsense.. The credit should go to singers/writers/their band  not to these silly billy guys running around in wet lands..

Off course Mr. Khanna was a good actor.. Any ways how many of you know HE WAS BORN IN PAKISTAN??

    Quote
Bollywood legend Rajesh Khanna opened his eyes on Dec 29, 1942 after coming into this world in Burewala city of Pakistan and not in Northern Punjab's city of Amritsar.  He was born in his ancestral house located in Burewala, Block-H and its building continues to stand strong even today. Rajesh Khanna's father, Lala Hiranand Khanna, was the first headmaster of MC School, Burewala, who got retired on in March 1947. Later in 1948, Hiranand Khanna migrated along with family to Amritsar following the partition of the sub-continent.

Rajesh Khanna received his education till Class-1 in MC Primary School, Burewala. At that time, the building of his house located adjacent to a central Mandir in Burewala Block-H. Today, the Mandir's building is a Police Station of Model Town. The building still has words "Jattan Nawas" inscribed on it in Hindi language. Interestingly, the original name of Rejash Khanna was Jattan Khanna. The residents of Burewala are in grief today on the demise of the super-duper star of Bollywood, who originally belonged to their city.

Millions of  lives uprooted across the subcontinent and millions died ., Frankly speaking by that migration Pakistan LOST EVERYTHING that was there before its birth including its culture Islamic or otherwise.

Utter needless madness all because of religion and extreme tribalism !
Subsequent events have proved that culture is real and religion is but a very thin veneer.
But people never learn and keep on prattling about 'the ummah'[exclusive club, intolerant of differences]  instead of humanity [inclusive,at ease with diversity].

The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.
