My personal rant
OP - July 28, 2012, 02:52 PM
I needed to write this down to get my head straight around my perception of where I stand, Sorry for making it a little long..i am interested to know of someone shares the similar view, or more importantly can point out flaws in this train of thought.
The big issues with existence is that there are 2 options here
1- Either God created the Universe
2- There is no God and the universe just is..
Suppose we do say that God did create the universe, none of the religious books in existence today explain who God is, and how God came about. The Islamic view of God creating the universe to create man to have man worship him is really an unsatisfactory answer, the Christian ideal is just the same. And if it is God, why is he invisible? Why is he not dealing with men, except in stories of old in a time which men due to a time of ignorance could have made up and believed any stories ? And then lets take the treatise of which religions especially Islam and Christianity are based on.
God is hidden as he wants men to use their minds to find him and obey his commands, and if they cannot do so, they will burn eternally. Whats the point of all of this? We are threatened with infinite suffering since we cannot believe stories and events for which there is no evidence, and which defy our reason, and defy all that we know about the world. So God has given us a brain to reason with and we have been told that this mind is what God has bestowed upon man above all creation, and yet, we have to defy it and go against its better nature, and believe incredible claims which have no evidence whatsoever, and if we fail to defy that given gift, then we shall burn and be eternally damned. But the essence of disbelief is a search for the truth. And in that search, if it does bring us to the fact that religions are manmade inventions and not divinely revealed, then it is what it is. And since God is the truth, then if he cannot stand the test of scrutiny of simple logic and pass it, and cannot provide any supernatural evidence of his authorship or inspirations for any scripture, then he is not the truth, and thus is not God, or God has revealed and authored defective scripture, and thus he is still not God. Thus Atheism is a search for the truth, in essence Atheism is a support system through which God may be found, but not the God who has human attributes, destroys his creation when he realizes they are behaving as he intended them too.
But assume there is a God who has created everything. He has not revealed scipture or intervened in human life. He is just the first cause, he is the Bang that Banged the universe, after finely tuning all its attributes to perfection and let it rip like a perfectly executed super complex Billiards/Domino trick shot. Had he a say in his creation ? Did he have a choice or a plan if we were going to be here or not? Is there a method we can reach him, but we have not evolved enough as a species to find out ? Could we still be an inferior evolutionary phase and not ready to deal with those facts ? Are we to the perfect being we can become what a cat is to an ant ? But then doesn't this concept negate a Perfect all knowing, all seeing, all powerful God? Calling this distant being God would be a little like calling a Square a circle. And then, if there is a All powerful God or an imperfect one, they question wwill arise as to how they came to be, and thus an infinite regress to the causes of that.
A universe that just "is", is a reality. The universe does exist. We are getting pretty damn close to an explanation how it existed, but even when we do, we will ask why the laws of the universe are what they are, and thus an infinite regress to why are they like that ?
So in both cases, in both God created universe and a Universe which just is, both are impossible as there is an infinite regress to first causes. Which begs the question does infinity even begin somewhere ?
As impossible that such a God could exist, it is the same impossibility that such a universe can exist aswell, since the same way we can ask who create God, we will ask why things actually are here and why the laws that rule them are what they are ? In stupendous complexity and elegance, in a universe where dead stars through the laws of physics and Chemistry and time, can make inanimate atomice matter become alive, and evolve. And it does not end here, and it created a conscious creation, a self aware creature. Able to back track and observe those laws.
All this begs to challenge what we understand as causality and reality, that they are probably a far greater surprise than our myopic senses and brains can comprehend..
Nothing is what it seems. We are like fish in water, who do not know what water is, as they know no other alternative to it. It is like we are missing dimensions here.
The mystery is greater than imagined
