He won the gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics for Britain in the triple jump and was a committed evangelising Christian. (He still holds the triple jump world record)

Then he lost his faith and renounced Christianity and is one of the most prominent atheists in Britain. He did great commentary on the London games for the BBC too! Top man

I posted this partly because of his namesake and his views on hell. Is the xian hell summarised above worse than the Islamic one?

Depends on the sect. Hell isn't described a whole lot in the Bible at least not specifically like what goes on there etc.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I had no idea either! That's great news! I loved that guy, he was such a terrific athlete. Wasn't her nick-named The Man Who didn't Jump On Sundays or something? That's what the French announcers used to call him in French.

Yeah I think he was that committed a Christian he refused to compete on Sundays! A great role model for atheists and dissenters
