  • My thoughts when I first became an apostate
     OP - September 25, 2012, 02:07 AM

I just wanted to share these with you all. I had jotted down my thoughts when I first admitted to myself that I didn't believe any more. I came across them today and felt the need to share...

    Stuck in the middle

When you change as a person you begin to lead 2 lives. 1 life for the people who love the old you and the other life true to your nature. No peace just a mixture of happiness and sadness… Joy and anger… Regret and hope. In the middle of these opposites I look for inspiration.

    Enough!

I got tired of making excuses for god. This tyrant of a god we are told to believe in by all major religions. Humanity is stuck in this ultimate abusive relationship.

    Koolaid

Religion sweetens itself so the poison is easier to take. We enjoy the sweet parts and ignore the bitter poison. “How can something that tastes this good be bad for me?” we asked ourselves. “Im just going to focus on the good parts” some say. Over time this poison changes some people, others it makes into apologetic conforming zombies but some catch on and stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Cults learn all their tricks from Religion itself. Infact Religion is just a cult on a massive scale. Many people hold onto Religion not out of love but out of fear… fear of how they will be viewed if they left, fear of the unknown, fear of losing family and friends.

    Looking Back

Leaving religion and god brought an inner peace. Felt like finally breaking free from an abusive and controlling relationship. You look back and think “I can’t believe I actually believed that shit”. “I can’t believe I made excuses for this asshole and looked for justification”.
It’s sad to think that I allowed to let religion brainwash me but Im so glad I got out of it. Saddens me to see so many people have their brain and reason taken away by religion… especially those people I love.
When mothers with daughters justify the founder of their faith marrying and having sex with a 9 year old it saddens and disgusts me. I’m ashamed I used to defend him too with the ridiculous excuse of “well it was considered normal and ok in that society in that time”. It never sat well in my heart and I am sure it doesn’t with those who make the same excuse for it today. They put it at the back of their mind because they feel there is too much to lose by renouncing this. By renouncing this the founder of Islam becomes open to criticism and the whole faith becomes open to criticism. Leaving the faith means losing family and friends but also there is fear of the unknown. Be brave.

    Fighting Spirit

It’s an odd feeling to know that this decision I have made about what a believe and do not believe would be punishable by death in some parts of the world today. It doesn’t frighten me in any way infact it gives me strength to fight back and push back.

Question everything. Explore what makes you uncomfortable or afraid. Don’t be afraid of the dark… your eyes will get used to it and eventually knowledge will fill it with light.

    Atheists hate God?
I’ve heard this accusation that atheists hate god. You can’t hate something that does not exist. Atheists may hate the persona of the god that is put forth in abrahamic religions. How can you not!? Read the bible and read what he commands and what he does and the only conclusion is that he is a tyrant. Then again Zeus was a bit of a twat too wasn’t he but no one believes in him anymore. We hate your fictional character the same way we hate a villain in a movie but the difference is that Voldemort doesn’t cause real people to oppress, kill and steal in his name and make it somehow justified.

    After death?
I am perfectly happy and at peace if there is no life after death. Perfectly happy knowing that every atom of my being will be absorbed back into this earth and become a part of this planet. The absence of an afterlife does not depress me…infact it makes me want to live this life to the fullest.

Respect?!?! Imagine a king or a dictator that demanded complete loyalty and love from his subjects. You could not criticize him or his decisions. You could not deny him because that would be treason punishable by death. You could not leave his kingdom because that would be punishable by death. Sounds very Medieval doesnt it? Like something form the dark ages?
This is the reality of Islam today as it has been in the past. Apostasy is punishable by death according to its law… according to the Quran. Legally I would be a candidate for the death penalty in some countries around the world today.
Some muslims will argue with me that even if I have left their religion I must show respect to it. Really?! Show respect to something that would have me killed for not believing in it anymore? Show respect to a belief system that would have me locked up till I changed my mind? A belief system that would condemn me for speaking out against it’s flaws, injustices and contradictions? No free speech or freedom of thought there Im afraid.
Its completely ridiculous to ask me to respect a person who would have me killed for not accepting him as my master. The same applies to religion. I am considered a rebel in the true sense of that word.
So NO… I will not respect your religion. I will not bow to it. Bowing to it in the first place presented my head to be struck off if I ever left.

How does one make a child religious? It’s quite simple really and people do it on purpose and without realizing it too. First you spend years just telling them about the pretty little fairytale bits of religion and only the parts where god, his prophets/gurus/avatars appear beautifully “good”. Once the children are believers you let them discover the nasty bits of religion by themselves or through the teachings of organized religion. At this point denying religion is not even an option for them and they scramble for excuses to justify the evil nasty parts in religion.
Now it gets dangerous. Now we get excuses made for killing others who are not like us. Now we have excuses made for grown men marrying children. Now we make excuses for the atrocities of this god.
When children first start learning about religion are they taught that those who do not believe in their religion are going to hell? Are they taught that apostates are to be killed? Are they taught that gays are to be killed? That a 50 something year old prophet had sex with a 9 year old? That the daughters of another prophet got their father drunk in a cave and had sex with him? That a whole tribe had their men and boys slaughtered and their women and children taken into slavery? That this loving god of theirs killed every first born innocent child of a whole nation because of the actions of the leader of that nation?
When they question these things they are told that they make sense in historical context, that it was the best option at the time. When an excuse can’t be found they are told that there is wisdom in all god does and they shouldn’t question it… It is impossible to completely understand gods reasons for such acts but hey he is all good and loving. WTF!

There is a virus of the mind that affects millions. It evolves to survive.  It feeds on our fears and hopes. It clings tight with guilt and threats. You will literally lose your mind to this affliction. Luckily there is a cure but the price can be high.

Eyes closed and hands clasped tight. Imagination creates what exists in your darkness. False hope and fear sits on its throne. Let reason enlighten your reality. Open your eyes to see what you have been missing for so long.
