After reading much about sexism/misogyny and it seems like the difference between sexism and misogyny seems blurry, there is no clear-cut between them but that is not the main issue for me.

My question to feminists are :

What do you think about chivalry?

Do you see anything wrong with men being chivalrous.?

Living by an idealised mediaeval warrior code? I dunno, dude. For one thing, too much swordplay (and not the fun kind, either).

I view it as a mask that's been traditionally used to sugarcoat the social oppression of women, as if somehow opening the door for the lady is compensation for her being denied real equality.  In achieving this equality should naturally come the decline of chivalry but that's not to say that men ought to be arseholes for the sake of feminism, it just means that there's generally no reason to be nicer to a woman than one would be to a man in the same social circumstances and vice versa.

Against the ruin of the world, there
is only one defense: the creative act.

I agree. I hold the door to men and women alike, for instance, and I would expect the same from anyone if I were carrying heavy bags or something.

And lately I've been really annoyed with how men tend to think that because you're "with them" (not at all in a romantic way, I'm talking about friends or coworkers or family) you're not allowed to pay for anything. When it's coworkers I'm tempted to tell them "Dude, I work in HR, I know your salary and I make more than you do"  grin12

This! Courtesy and kindness for all people, regardless of gender, should be the norm at which people (not just men) operate on a daily basis.

Also, I'm not so fond of the idea of chivalry today as it ties in with social gender constructs. Same as being "lady-like". Just be kind and everything works out okay for everyone.

This. I get a tad annoyed at guys at work that insist on holding the door open for me, even though I probably turned up after they reached the door  Roll Eyes

Then you get the other extreme where guys let the door slam into your face. Sometimes you just can't win. Grin

I did that to one lady at a hotel too once. She couldnt contain her excitement saying "Thank God, there is a gentleman in this building!"

I still have a mixed view on this.I guess it depends on the situation and the kind of person im dealing with, mostly because you might annoy or irritate someone without the intention of doing so

Yeah, that's the thing. I dont really believe in this Alpha or Beta thing. I think every male individual has both Alpha and Beta sides in him, there isnt one that is 100% Alpha or Beta besides it's a form of social construct to me and perpetuate a combination of patriarchal and misogynistic ideals in a society.

I dont really believe in this Alpha or Beta thing.

Well these aren't certainly genetic traits per se. It's just a way of describing someone's behaviour/personality.

ie someone who bows down to women and lets them walk over him will be classed as a beta because he is doing this specifically because a person is a FEMALE.

An alpha will be someone who has leadership and will not allow anyone to dominate them.

Well alpha males generally refer to men who make the right decisions,  I think beta males are the ones who are sexist as they do things for women solely because they are female and treat them differently than how they treat men.

    Cheesy Get a dictionary. Srsly.

brb dictionary says ''the dominant male animal or person in a group''
brb in today's society this isn't necessarily true as it isn't like how it is in the wild
brb I also said ''An alpha will be someone who has leadership and will not allow anyone to dominate them.'' [Was meant to ass leadership qualities]
brb what makes someone have leadership qualities? Making the correct decisions
    brb brb

Will now go back to raging at the abundance of pathetic beta men I see nowadays  finmad.
