Muslims basically have become idolators of Mohammed. That is why you can write the name of Allah with dog feces on a beer batter-roasted ham and nobody will care. But make so much as a peep about Mo's sundry adventures with slave girls or his ride on a flying horse or his warlord-like behaviour, and Muslims will go berserk. Hence, they may think they're worshipping Allah, but it's clear who really gets under their skin.

It really is! This is the 'secret' that hides in plain sight - Allah is actually co-terminus with Muhammad, in practise and effect.

Yes . . . but why is it that you think such statements are somehow convincing? If you are that intelligent - why can you not argue on merit alone and revert to such language? Is there a need? Who are you trying to convince?

Was it the word feces or the phrase slave girls or flying horse that bothered you? I'm guessing it's the word feces, though I could've used more colourful substitutes. The reason I'm guessing that is because as a Muslim, you are not supposed to be bothered by Mo's taking of female slaves or zooming around on flying horses.

Anyway, like billy said, good night from me too. Get some sleep will ya?

Everything in this paragraph is factually incorrect. Seriously, where are you getting this from? Every single one of those cultures practiced polytheism. Henotheism is NOT monotheism.

In what way? Proof? You only ventured a statement on Henotheism - which is worship of one god - but accepting many - their early history was more monotheistic - later became more poly. That was what most Arabs were before Islam.

Seriously, the intellectual catastrophe of trying to re-write history and facts and philosophy in order to shoe-horn it into the grand narrative that leads to Islam being the final religion that they all lead up to, and Muhammad being the 'seal of all prophets'

This is what a belief in the finality and supremacy of Islam leads to - this kind of intellectual train wreck.

If you can waste so much time in such sentences - grandiose spiel - then why so lacking in any 'arguments'? It works for the converted - sure? But . . . .lacking other wise.

I'll bet you can not answer the question WHY? Why would a loving god do all this? Being all powerful and all knowing, why would he play such charades with his creations? He knows what they'll do, so why do the testing?

Fact: History suggests people thought the sun went round the earth.

    Possible conclusions:

    b) People are fuckin' morons.

Interesting how it was religious people then too who were trying to deny something man finally learned, 'cos it was at odds with what was written in their favourite fairytale.

So what is the "source of evil" according to you?

If he creates and allows evil, then such a god is also evil.

    Quote
None of the above are ideas of god that are like Allah. Hence your initial false dichotomy is wrong because you are basing the entire idea of "god" as ONLY possibly meaning "Allah". The polytheists believe in many gods. Pantheism is about believing that the Universe itself is divine (no god outside of universe). Agnosticism and Deism also do not work with the concept of "Allah" which is a vengeful, jealous, human-like personal god.

But you created this whole mess - I did not. It had nothing to d o with Islam - I stated that clearly. . . . I have said clearly that the root is that I believe in the concept of God -  then it led to Islam. Islam was secondary. . . you prceded to think what you like.

But all these can be sorted into 2 categories.  And I did. Allah had nothing to do with it. Islam - is under Monotheism - it too would have fitted into the main category.

    - - - -

    Quote
Wrong again. Atheism is not belief in no god, but in the non-belief of god or gods. I.e. Atheism does not posit that there are no gods, it is about saying "when there is proof, we'll see".

Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athiesm

    Hair Splitting.

    - - -

    Quote
Again, incorrect, because the god or gods in these are not the same. Hence you can not divide these into 1 group. Most pantheists are also atheists or agnostic.

The split isn't ABOUT God an Characteristics of God - but the basic belief in deity - or its rejection.

    Quote
Most agnostics are in between belief and non-belief and also in different contexts, so e.g. many logical people know that the abrahamic sky-daddy is impossible. But they may not rule out other ideas of transcendent or immanent realities.

"agnostics are in between" I said that . . . .  "many logical people know that the abrahamic sky-daddy is impossible. But they may not rule out other ideas of transcendent or immanent realities."

Hence I added them to no-belief - with pointing it out why.

    Quote
Point again is, when you divide the world into "belief vs non-belief", it is very very naive and uneducated.

how? I was simply describing myself - and not the world. At root - it is fairly simple question of belief or no belief in a deity. You delibraterly make it out to be about the world at large.

The fact that a people worshiped one god is not evidence that a prophet from Allah was sent to them.  That's the most threadbare of evidence.  What did they practice, what characteristics did this deity have? If it doesn't contain any of the peculiarities of the Islamic religion then it's not evidence, any more than proof that the Greeks practiced polytheism is proof that Hinduism is the true religion.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Early Hellenistic - before Judaism were monotheistic. Dionysus as practiced in Cyprus around 4bc.

What is this? Hellenistic in English refers to the era of the successor states to Alexander. I think what you must mean is 'Hellenic', meaning Greek, so why didn't you just say "Greek". What does "Cyprus around 4bc" mean? Do you mean 4,000 BC, 400 BC or 4 BC? Dionysus was the Greek God of wine, part of a polytheistic pantheon. If you could provide a source for this claim about Cyprus that would be better. Cyprus was not the home of the Greeks, they migrated there, or to be more specific, the Achaean tribe migrated there in the First Millennium BC, so whatever Greek religion was there, it was only a late version of a specific tribe of Greeks, it does not represent Greek religion as a whole. Besides Cyprus was also said to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, so Dionysus was not the only deity worshiped in Cyprus.

    Mitharism,

Mithra was one of many Gods in the Persian Polytheistic pantheon, he was God of the Sun and was equated with Apollo by the Greeks. Mithraism took on the form of a Monotheistic faith during the Roman Era as a competitor with Christianity.

    Quote
    Hypsistarians

According to the wiki article, Hypsistarians emerged in the Hellenistic era starting around 200 BC and the term was first used in the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament. You were supposed to be providing examples of Monotheistic religions that had no contact with Judaism, not ones that were influenced by it.

    Quote
    Zoroastrians,

Same thing as Mithraism, Ahura Mazda was one of many gods in the Persian pantheon during the Acheamenid era, of which Mithra (God of the Sun) and Anahita (Goddess of water) were others. Ahura Mazda would later evolve into one of 2 deities in the Zoroastrian Faith (Dualistic not Monotheistic), but again this occurred in a Middle Eastern world were Judaism was already well known, it did not develop in isolation.

For a source on early Polytheistic religions of Achaemenid Persia, you can read "The Persian Empire" by J.M. Cook

    Quote
Many form of Hinduism - were monotheists. American Indians - belief in the great creator. Henotheism - some form were Mono. Henotheism - but they accepted other Gods - but devoted just to one. Then there are many form of mono - in China before Confucianism and Taoism.

These are very vague terms, "many forms of Hinduism were Monotheistic" Which ones? When? When ? Where? What is the evidence? And American Indians? Which tribes? What is the evidence? And China, ditto. Henotheism by its very definition accepts more than one God and is therefore polytheistic.

Early history of Indo-European tribes emerge with one powerful God. History of this Dyeus bears signs of being monotheistic. later descended into many Gods. Zeus and whatnot.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyeus

In the very first sentence of that wiki link, it clarifies that these were polytheistic societies:

    Quote
Dyēus (also *Dyēus ph2ter) is believed to have been chief deity in the religious traditions of the prehistoric Proto-Indo-European tribes. Part of a larger pantheon, he was the god of the daylight sky, and his position may have mirrored the position of the patriarch or monarch in society. This deity is not directly attested; rather scholars have reconstructed this deity from the languages and cultures of later Indo-European nations.

But most importantly ALL of the religions that you have brought up practiced idolatry. A great sin in Islam.

    Quote
and i acknowledge the question of proof too.

No if you are making claims that go against all mainstream academia on a subject then the burden of proof lies on you to back these claims up with strong sources, preferably peer-reviewed by other academics in the field.

    Quote

I said that dogs are hated in Islam, you protested over the semantics. Nevertheless you did not find a single culture that has the same or similar attitude towards dogs in their religion.

If you have looked at other wiki pages - give Monotheism page a going over too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monotheism

Monotheism existed before the Abrahamic faiths.

Dyeus - started off as more or less strict Monotheism. But became polytheistic - in its many forms.  I studied this once quite in-depth- as it influenced Greek and Indian societies.

The point is - which I pointed out from the start - that just because you can find evidence of Monotheism and its many forms . . . . what has that got to do with Islam - and discrepancies?

Why would providing evidence that other societies practiced circumcision or did not practice have any bearing about Islam and circumcision? In that wiki article it lists societies that practiced circumcision that were NOT in touch with Hebrew faiths. Africa - Greco-Roman world. Did you bother to read it?

Circumcision IS a cultural practice from Middle East. That IS how Muslims view it. It is not an ordained command from God as such within Islam - as praying or fasting are.

anyways I would like to tell Amin "to get over that god thing god nonsense that is there in every religious book " and Islam is no exception to that rule.

What all you need to replace all these silly books is simple golden rule in our lives..  Amin use that in your life it will take yiu  to your allah after your demise and it will give you  more voluptuous  raisins   than any Muslim can find in their Islamic heavens. or I can find in super Market ...

Stupid raisins are rotten  and oozing liquid within a day..  finmad

Why would this person preach at me. . . . when he did not even have the decency to be at least civil? Who is this garbage for? If it isn't meant for me - why use my name? Why preach at me in the 1st place? And refer to me in third person - and switch to first?

    Ego?

I agree! I think the post calls for this quote-

"You should live your life and try to make the world a better place for your being in it, whether or not you believe in God. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, he will judge you on your merits and not just on whether or not you believed in him." - The Atheist's Wager

AminRiaz. Just live a good life- I find it much more fulfilling to do right things for its own sake instead of waiting for some prize at the end like some carrot on a stick.  far away hug

"In every religion there is love, yet love has no religion"

"The intellectual runs away, afraid of drowning; the whole business of love is to drown in the sea." - Rumi
